A 19-year-old man has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. It looks like an open-and-shut case-until one of the jurors begins opening the others' eyes to the facts. 'This is a remarkable thing about democracy,' says the foreign-born juror, 'that we are notified by mail to come down to this place-and decide on the guilt or innocence of a person; of a man or woman we have not known before. We have nothing to gain or lose by our verdict. We should not make it a personal thing.' But personal it is, with each juror revealing his or her own character as the various testimonies are re-examined, the murder is re-enacted and a new murder threat is born before their eyes! Tempers get short, arguments grow heated, and the jurors become 12 angry women. (more...)

As of this spring, Seth Bisen-Hersh has produced, emceed and accompanied over 400 showcases at Don't Tell Mama during the past 9 years.  To celebrate, he has invited 74 showcase alumni to return to the stage in 5 concerts of his songs in what he deems: Seth's 400th Showcase Nonapalooza!  The five concerts will be: Today, May 3rd; Today, May 10th; Friday, May 13th; Monday, May 16th; and Today, May 24th, all at 7PM.   Shows are all at 7PM at Don't Tell Mama, 343 W. 46th St.  There is a $12 cover and 2 drink minimum.  Reservations can be made by calling 212-757-0788 after 4 or going online to donttellmamanyc.com/shows.  The list of performers is below. Carousel is bustin' out all over in Berwick, Maine and Hackmatack Playhouse would like to invite you to join them this summer in celebrating this classic masterpiece by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Set in a Maine coastal village, the handsome, carnival barker, Billy Bigelow, charms his way into the heart of local millworker, Julie Jordan. Billy soon finds himself married to Julie and unemployed with a baby on the way. In an attempt to provide a decent life for his family, Billy is persuaded by a friend to be an accomplice in a robbery. He is caught red-handed and takes his own life avoiding a life behind bars. Guided by heavenly friends, Billy returns to earth for one day where he finally meets his fifteen year old daughter. Humbled by this encounter, Billy is able to instill love and hope to his family giving them peace in their lives. (more...)
