BWW Reviews: Adorably Bittersweet OUTSIDE MULLINGAR at Seattle Rep
by Jay Irwin - Apr 30, 2015

John Patrick Shanley may be best known for his incredibly thought provoking play 'Doubt' but there's an almost romantic comedy side to his writing as well. I say 'almost' as I would never want to put his quirky, flawed characters looking for love (like the ones in his Oscar winning screenplay 'Moonstruck') in the same boat as standard romantic comedy. And that off kilter romance has found its way onto the Seattle Rep stage with his latest piece 'Outside Mullingar', showing that his adorably bittersweet style is alive and well.

BWW Reviews: Book-It's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE Will Jump Start Your Romance

Romantics the world over have loved the works of Jane Austen for centuries with her tales of loves lost and then found. And one of her best beloved is now on stage from Book-It Repertory Theatre with "Pride and Prejudice". And not only is it a wonderful adaptation filled with superb performances but, guys, take your dates to this one and you're bound to get lucky.

BWW Reviews: Seattle Shakes' IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST Is Thoroughly Delightful
by Jay Irwin - Mar 23, 2014

When Seattle Shakespeare Company hits one out of the park they do it with gusto. Such is the case with their current production of Oscar Wilde's battle of witty banter, "The Importance of Being Earnest". They've managed to take Wilde's delightful romp and made it even more delightful by executing it with magnificent precision in all aspects. If I had to find one drawback with the production it's that it ended as I, for one, was having entirely too good a time.

Seattle Shakespeare Company to Present THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, 3/19-4/13
by Tyler Peterson - Feb 26, 2014

Only one other writer could compete with Shakespeare for the title of the most quoted playwright, and that is Oscar Wilde. Seattle Shakespeare Company produces their first production of a Wilde play with The Importance of Being Earnest directed by Victor Pappas this spring.

BWW Reviews: Seattle Rep's INSPECTING CAROL Delivers Some Laughs But Doesn’t Hold Together
by Jay Irwin - Nov 29, 2012

It's always a risk when a professional company such as the Rep dusts off an old chestnut such as "Inspecting Carol". I mean, it's kind of become a go to Christmas show for hundreds of regional theaters and might be a little dated. But I can understand why since it was created at the Rep back in 1991 by then Artistic Director Daniel Sullivan and the Seattle Repertory Theatre Resident Company. And while the remount this year definitely had some laughs, overall it felt clunky and filled with holes and didn't deliver the constant barrage of gut busters I was expecting.
