The Barter Players Presents THE CAT IN THE HAT

The Barter Players are bringing a favorite children's book to life on stage, THE CAT IN THE HAT. Our story has been adapted from Dr. Seuss by Katie Mitchell, and it will be playing on Gilliam Stage April 23 - May 25.

The Shed Opens This Friday With Specially Commissioned New Works

The Shed, New York City's new arts center dedicated to commissioning, develops, and presents original works of art, across all disciplines, for all audiences, will open to the public on April 5 with the world premiere of Soundtrack of America. The five-night concert series, conceived and directed by Steve McQueen with a creative team led by Quincy Jones and Maureen Mahon, celebrates the unrivaled impact of African American music on contemporary culture with performances by a new generation of artists. A free live stream of the April 5 concert will be available on The Shed's website, TheShed.org, and its social media channels.

Step away from the returns queue. The rare presence of Hollywood star Cate Blanchett on a London stage has caused a box office frenzy, but sadly this would-be provocative vehicle - Martin Crimp's loose variations on Samuel Richardson's 1740 proto-novel Pamela, directed by Katie Mitchell - isn't worthy of her talents, nor those of the excellent Stephen Dillane.

Barbara Hannigan Makes Her New York Conducting Debut With The Juilliard Orchestra

Singer/conductor Barbara Hannigan makes her New York conducting debut with the Juilliard Orchestra in works by Strauss, Haydn, Debussy, Sibelius, and Bartok on Friday, February 8, 2019, at 7:30pm in Alice Tully Hall. The program features Strauss' "Salome's Dance" from Salome, Op. 54; Haydn's Symphony No. 96 in D Major, Hob. I:96, ("The Miracle"); Debussy's Syrinx (flute soloist to be announced); Sibelius' Luonnatar, Op. 70, with Juilliard soprano Meghan Kasanders; and Bartok's Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin. Hannigan made her debut as a conductor in 2011 at the Chatelet in Paris with Stravinsky's Renard; the soprano has been dividing her time between singing and conducting ever since.

Jeremie Rhorer Conducts Verdi's LA TRAVIATA In Paris

Conductor Jeremie Rhorer returns to Theatre des Champs-Elysees today, November 28, through December 9, 2018, conducting a new production of Verdi's La traviata, directed by Deborah Warner, and using Verdi's original tuning. Rhorer will conduct Le Cercle de l'Harmonie, the period-instrument ensemble dedicated to music of the 18th and 19th centuries, which he founded in 2005.
