Additional Casting Announced For The West Coast Premiere Of THE JUNGLE

Today, Carole Shorenstein Hays and Sonia Friedman Productions with Tom Kirdahy announced the additional casting for the West Coast Premiere of the Good Chance Theatre, National Theatre and Young Vic production of THE JUNGLE by Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson at San Francisco's Curran. Set in Europe's largest unofficial refugee camp in Calais, France, the Jungle became a temporary home for more than 10,000 people in 2015. Under the direction of Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin, the limited engagement begins Tuesday March 26, 2019 and will run through Sunday, May 19, 2019. Opening night is Thursday, April 4, 2019. Tickets for THE JUNGLE are $25-$165 and are available now at SFCURRAN.com/jungle. $25 day-of rush tickets to THE JUNGLE will be made available through a partnership with TODAY TIX.

Curran And 'New York Times' Presents BEYOND BORDERS

Carole Shorenstein Hays announced today Curran and New York Times will present Beyond Borders on Tuesday, February 26 at 7 p.m. One month before the theater transforms into a refugee camp's Afghan cafe for the West Coast debut of the celebrated new play THE JUNGLE, New York Times journalists will discuss how the U.S. treats its migrants and immigrants, addressing what is happening at the borders and in our cities, including sanctuary cities like San Francisco. The event is part of Curran's popular SHOW & TELL series, featuring topical one-night-only events. Tickets for Beyond Borders are $25-35 and available beginning Tuesday, February 12 at 10 a.m. on SFCURRAN.com.

Their work documents the experiences of people worldwide embarking on perilous journeys to find safety in new homes or temporary stops along the way.

THE JUNGLE Enters its Final Weeks In The West End

Audiences have just three weeks left to see the critically acclaimed production of The Jungle by Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson at the Playhouse Theatre in London's West End. Directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin, the production has received widespread critical acclaim and won the South Bank Sky Arts Award in the 2018 Theatre category. Set in Europe's largest unofficial refugee camp, the Calais Jungle, which in 2015, became a temporary home for more than 10,000 people, the play transferred to the West End from the Young Vic where the traditional proscenium Playhouse theatre underwent a remarkable transformation. Housing Miriam Buether's set design, audiences are invited to sit at the benches and tables of the Afghan cafe in the Calais camp or in the Dress Circle.

The Television Academy tonight presented the 2018 Creative Arts Emmy Awards Ceremonies on Saturday and Sunday night honoring outstanding artistic and technical achievement in television at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The Saturday ceremony, which kicked-off the 70th Emmys, awarded many talented artists and craftspeople in the categories of animation, scripted programming including comedy, drama and limited series. The Sunday ceremony honored performers, artists and craftspeople for excellence in variety, nonfiction or reality programming, reality competition programming, music, choreography, as well as documentary or nonfiction specials, informational series or specials.

BWW Review: THE JUNGLE, Playhouse Theatre

Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson's play had such a good reception during its run at the Young Vic Theatre back in the winter that it has transferred across the river to the Playhouse Theatre in the West End, bringing its cast with it (along with some additions). It is based on Murphy and Robertson's experience of being out in Calais, witnessing the refugees' plight first-hand. While they were there, they set up 'Good Chance', which allowed residents to express themselves through the arts - its key words are disrupt, explore, innovate, welcome, connect and create.

THE JUNGLE Wins South Bank Sky Arts Award

The Jungle by Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson has won the South Bank Sky Arts Award in the 2018 Theatre category. The production is set in Europe's largest unofficial refugee camp, the Calais Jungle, which in 2015, became a temporary home for more than 10,000 people. A National Theatre and Young Vic co-production with Good Chance Theatre, The Jungle is directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin. It is currently in previews at the Playhouse Theatre in London's West End, produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Tom Kirdahy and Hunter Arnold, following a sell-out run at the Young Vic in December 2017.
