Hell In A Handbag Productions' THE DRAG SEED Begins July 5

Hell in a Handbag Productions continues its 2019 season with the world premiere of THE DRAG SEED, an unauthorized parody of the 1956 psychological horror-thriller film The Bad Seed, inspired by our changing times, written by Artistic Director David Cerda, with direction by Cheryl Snodgrass and songs by David Cerda and Scott Lamberty.

BWW Interview: Odalys Nanin Talks About the Success of her FRIDA play and Announces a Fundraiser

Actress/director.producer Odalys Nanin presented her award-winning Frida: Stroke of Passion at Casa 0101 in February of this year to great acclaim. The play bowed originally in 2017 at the Macha Theatre and ran for 3 months. The Casa 0101 engagement was made possible by a grant from the Eastside Arts Initiative. Kahlo wrote the play and directs, produces and stars in it as Frida Kahlo. She will have a fundraiser in August and September so she and her team can continue their programming in 2020 and hopefully acquire a new space. In our interview she talks about her success and points to the difficulty in mounting good theatre in Los Angeles. How did your run of Frida go at Casa 101?

The Kitchen And Arts For Art Present IDENTITY: FREEDOM

New York-based free jazz organization Arts for Art collaborates with The Kitchen to present free jazz ensembles in a multidisciplinary program of improvisation over the course of three evenings, March 7-9, 2019, at The Kitchen. From jazz, dance, and poetry to political discourse, these concerts consist of musical and discursive interjections among participants, which segue into conversations that are inclusive of audiences. Ms. Haan will perform with the Grammy-award winning 1920's Big Band, Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks.

Vincent Victoria Presents, the small theater organization in Houston, Texas that prides itself on doing good work on a small budget and dedicated to recreating forgotten historical moments from African American History onstage, recently took matters into their own hands because of the unfortunate shortage of theater reviewers in the city, and asked audience members to submit their own thoughts and reviews of the World Premiere period drama 'Mr Booker T. at the Door'.
