Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun was the first play by a Black woman to appear on Broadway. Since its first performance in 1959, it remains as hard-hitting as ever. Exploring a domestic drama in its depiction of an everyday working class Black family, with ordinary desires, conflicts and aspirations; radical at the time of writing. See what our critic had to say.

Joan of Arc has long been a symbol of female empowerment. Her ascent to patron saint of France is often described as a tale of gender non-conforming rebellion for women to aspire to. Shakespeare's Globe and writer Charlie Josephine (they/he) have dismantled this depiction of womanhood, redefining Joan's experiences through the lens of trans existence. In I, Joan, the protagonist traverses the same war and faith we as an audience are accustomed to, whilst also advocating for and navigating their nonbinary identity.
As the most notorious monarch in British history, Henry VIII's rule was tyrannous and imposing. Known for his colossal physique and consort of six unlucky wives, Henry Tudor has long stood as an example of the damage done by brutish men with excessive power. His reputation as a prolific abuser of women has inspired an array of assertive feminist theatre and this offering by Shakespeare's Globe is no exception.
Trampolinist extraordinaire Max Calaf is joined by his musical, acrobatic friends for this light-hearted, breath-taking performance in a show that celebrates how humans find and connect with each other. There will be two free performances of Dip outside the Pavilion Theatre on Saturday 3 August, at 11:00am and 2:00pm as part of Worthing Theatres Summer of Circus!
Suzy Storck is stuck in a routine. Her life is anything but mundane, yet her regular behavioural patterns result in an exhausting struggle through each day. Right from the off we are hit with a domestic tragedy, but at that moment it is unexplained. We see Suzy alone, drinking wine, listening to the radio as an overwhelming amount of children's toys are littered around her.
In her first season as Artistic Director of the Gate Theatre, Ellen McDougall presents Suzy Storck, directed by celebrated French director Jean-Pierre Baro, in his debut UK production. Baro, one of the most exciting new artists in French theatre, directs Kate Duchene (Madam Storck), Caoilfhionn Dunne (Suzy Storck), Jonah Russell (Hans Vasilly Kruez) and Theo Solomon (Chorus). Suzy Storck opens on 31 October, with previews from tonight 26 October and runs until 18 November. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
