Carnegie Hall 2019—2020 Announces Pop, World Music, And Jazz Season Highlights

Carnegie Hall's 2019a?"2020 season is upon us, and we are looking forward to a variety of exceptional programming and exciting new projects. A major programming highlight to note for this fall, Carnegie Hall has invited Grammy Award-winning singer Angélique Kidjo to chart the journey of African music and culture around the world for her season-long Perspectives series with four concerts including: Benin International Musical; a concert dedicated to the powerful voices of the African diaspora led by musical director Terence Blanchard featuring The E-Collective; guitarist Lionel Loueke and his trio; and a special concert marking both Ms. Kidjo's 60th birthday and the anniversary of independence for Benin and 16 other West African countries.

THE ART OF THE SCORE Returns Next Month With “Close Encounters Of The Third Kind” And “Psycho”

The New York Philharmonic will present the seventh season of The Art of the Score, September 11a?"14, 2019, featuring two New York Premiere screenings, both conducted by Richard Kaufman: Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind in Concert, with John Williams's score performed live to the film, and Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho in Concert, with Bernard Herrmann's score performed live to the film. Actor and Philharmonic Board Member Alec Baldwin returns as Artistic Advisor of The Art of the Score, which explores some of the most distinctive uses of music in film.

BWW Review: PICNIC POPS SALUTE TO AMERICA! at Grand Rapids Symphony

Twenty-five years ago in Grand Rapids, the Van Andel Arena still was on the drawing board. Meijer Gardens had opened just three months earlier, but it would be many years before an outdoor amphitheater would be built as a venue for summer concerts.   At Cannonsburg Ski Area, on a steamy evening in mid-July, the Grand Rapids Symphony launched a brand new, outdoor concert experience called the Picnic Pops.   This season The Grand Rapids Symphony celebrates its 25th Anniversary of its D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops with a series of three shows that are all time favorites with Picnic Pops audiences plus a special event capping off four weeks of concerts at Cannonsburg.

Itzhak Perlman Opens The Soraya's 2019/20 Season

Violinist Itzhak Perlman, one of the reigning artists of our day, will make a rare appearance for a recital to inaugurate the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts' 2019-2020 Season on September 19 at 7pm.  Perlman is accompanied by Rohan De Silva, piano.

BMI Announces The Participants For 2019 Conducting Workshop For Visual Media Composers

BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) announced today the selected participants for its 22nd annual Conducting Workshop for Visual Media Composers, led by BMI Classic Contribution Award winner, conductor and composer Lucas Richman. Beginning August 13, the elite group will spend two weeks sharpening their conducting skills to music selections by BMI film composing legends such as Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams. The workshop will be held at BMI's Los Angeles office and Blake Neely's Cow on the Wall Studio in North Hollywood culminating with the participants leading a 32-piece orchestra live to picture at Nathan Barr's Bandrika studio in Tarzana on August 24.

Cinematic Classic Returns To The Big Screen With Score Performed Live To Picture By The Utah Symphony

Steven Spielberg's era-defining masterpiece 'E.T. the Extra Terrestrial' won a plethora of awards, including an Academy Award for John Williams' spellbinding score. On Saturday, July 13 at 7:30 PM, the Utah Symphony and Deer Valley Music Festival Principal Conductor Conner Gray Covington will perform the score live to picture as the full length feature film plays on the big screen at the Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater.

Conductor Gemma New to Make Four Orchestral Debuts in 30 Days this Summer

The fast-rising New Zealand-born conductor Gemma New will be making her debut with four different U.S. orchestras this Summer, beginning with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra June 27, where she will be conducting Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and Polonaise from 'Eugene Onegin', as well as Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3.
