Equity Gallery is pleased to present 1984, an exhibition of the life works of New York based painter, stage designer, interior designer, and installation artist, Huck Snyder. Most active during the chaotic, eclectic era of the 1980's East Village art scene, Snyder crafted sets for prominent dancers and choreographers such as Bill T. Performance Space New York partners with East Village-based queer funk dance party WET NOISE for a celebratory 12-Hour DANCE-A-THON (May 5, 12pm-12am), a fundraising event that couldn't be further from expectations of what a "fundraising event" entails. The DANCE-A-THON revels in filthy funk music, endless dancing, community building, and inclusivity across age, race, gender, sexuality, and class. Queer|Art, the New York City-based non-profit supporting the creative and professional development of LGBTQ artists, continues the Winter 2019 season of Queer|Art|Film at IFC Center on March 4 and April 8. Queer|Art|Film, presented by HBO, is a monthly screening series in which some of New York's most unique artists present and discuss the films that have most inspired them. This season Queer Art's flipping the script by inviting celebrated drag queens to present and discuss films that have inspired their craft in post-screening kikis. Despite the title, Will Eno's THE REALISTIC JONESES, now receiving its Chicago premiere in a co-production between Shattered Globe Theatre and Theater Wit, does not seem to wholly exist in the real world. Though Jack Magaw's tidy set design, Hailey Rakowiecki's quotidian costume designs, and John Kelly's lighting design are all quite realistic, Eno's play dwells in the realm of the absurd. Rather than following any conventional narrative structure, THE REALISTIC JONESES plays out as a series of vignettes between two married couples; both are the Joneses of the title. The elder Joneses, Jennifer and Bob, are long-time residents of the unidentified town near the mountains, while Pony and John are newcomers to the neighborhood. (more...)
