ng their acclaimed run last September, West Virginia Public Theatre (WVPT) returns to Monongalia Arts Center over Valentine's Day Weekend for a strictly limited three-show revival. The Last Five Years, which won both 'Best Musical' and 'Best Actor in a Musical' in the 2018 BroadwayWorld Regional Awards, is an intimate, funny, and devastatingly honest examination of life and love. The production opens on Thursday, February 14 at 8pm, with additional shows on February 15 at 8pm and February 17 at 2pm. There is no performance on Saturday the 16th. All performances will take place in the Tanner Theatre at Monongalia Arts Center (MAC).
AMERICAN SON Concludes Limited Broadway Run Today!

American Son, which opened at the Booth Theatre on November 4, will take its final bow today, January 27, following 96 performances and 33 previews. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, following the show's final performance today, Netflix will reassemble the cast at a later date to film the production without an audience present.

Jason Robert Brown's landmark musical Songs for a New World (New York City Center 2018 Encores! Off-Center Cast Recording) is released today, Friday, January 25, in streaming and digital formats, in addition to a two-CD set. This is the show's first recording since the world premiere album over 20 years ago. In the ensuing years, these songs have become staples of contemporary musical theater, including the modern standard "Stars and the Moon." Jason Robert Brown's next big musical project is on its way to the stage!According to an Equity casting notice, his adaptation of the 1993 film Farewell My Concubine will get a staged reading February 11-15. The project, which features a book by Kenneth Lin, will receive direction by Moises Kaufman and musical direction by Thomas Murray.

Happy New Year to the Syracuse area theater community! We have a new year filled a variety of theatrical productions throughout the greater Syracuse area coming up! We are fortunate to live in an area that has so many talented actors, technicians, and directors as well as dedicated theater companies - not to mention supportive theatergoers. From the local theaters to the Equity tours that come through the area, we are lucky that Syracuse offers many opportunities to experience live theater. Having seen countless productions in this area since I was young and reviewed many shows for the past few years, I thought I would take a moment to share which productions I am most excited about in 2019!
