The 2021 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has been awarded to U.S. playwright Erika Dickerson-Despenza for her play about the Flint, Michigan water crisis, cullud wattah. Awarded annually since 1977, The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize is the largest and oldest international prize honoring Women+ playwrights.

Season three at the Wayward Artist kicks off 2020 exploring the idea of identity. Called a?oeRelentlessly grippinga?? by TimeOut London and a?oeGasp-worthya?? by The New York Times, this thrilling drama imagines a digital world that provides its users with total sensory immersion and no rules: The Nether. When Detective Morris discovers a?oeThe Hideaway,a?? a secret realm within The Nether offering its visitors a disturbing brand of entertainment, she launches an investigation into the complex morality of the digital world. Winner of the 2012 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and nominated for the 2015 Olivier Award for Best New Play, The Nether will run in FST's Bowne's Lab Theatre starting January 15.

Florida Studio Theatre announces the lineup for its 2020 Stage III Series, dedicated to presenting edgy new plays that are challenging in both content and form. FST's 2020 Stage III season offers a varied lineup of contemporary plays, including a riveting sci-fi thriller, a regional premiere about justice and the rule of law, and Stage III's first-ever world premiere production.

Dragon's 2020 season is intensely human, with warts and all. It is a season of stories about our intentions and their outcomes and how sometimes those don't always match up. It's looking at two sides of the coin of our nature - the saints and the sinners, the sacred and the profane. It's about virtue and making mistakes. It's about forgiveness... or revenge. It is about morality and conviction, and how sometimes we don't quite understand what's right or wrong, at least not until it's too late. It is ultimately about embracing the journey of being human, and not knowing where the road will end.

Center Theatre Group has selected participants for the 2019-2020 L.A. Writers' Workshop, where local playwrights are invited to spend eight months in residence at the company researching and writing new works with the feedback from artistic staff and their fellow writers. The workshop, administrated by Center Theatre Group's Artistic Department, is designed to foster new voices, inspire playwrights to create their best work, encourage bold writing and build relationships among local playwrights, Center Theatre Group and the Los Angeles theatre community. 

2020 marks the 20th birthday of the Dragon Productions Theatre Company and is the first season that new co-artistic directors Alika Spencer Koknar and Bora a?oeMaxa?? Koknar have programmed for the company. The theatre season is the typical mix of Dragon produced a?oeMain Stage Seriesa?? shows and a?oe2nd Stages Seriesa?? plays. However, in 2020, as part of a company re-branding effort in progress, the 2nd Stages series will be renamed the Dragon's Nest Incubator Program to better acknowledge Dragon's commitment to the development of local artists of varying disciplines.

The Flea Theater presents the World Premiere of THE INVENTION OF TRAGEDY,the centerpiece of MAC WELLMAN: PERFECT CATASTROPHES, a festival of plays by the influential vanguard playwright. Now in previews, performances run through October 14 at The Flea (20 Thomas Street in Tribeca, between Church and Broadway, three blocks north of Chambers) with opening set for September 21.

59E59 Theaters welcomes the Off Broadway premiere of ROUND TABLE by Liba Vaynberg and directed by Geordie Broadwater. Produced by Fault Line Theatre and Anna & Kitty, Inc., ROUND TABLE begins performances on September 27 for a limited engagement through October 20
