Producer Scott Rudin announced today that the Broadway production of William Shakespeare's King Lear, will play its final performance on Sunday, June 9, 2019. King Lear began previews on Thursday, February 28, 2019 and opened on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street). At the time of its closing, it will have played 34 preview performances and 76 regular performances.

The 10th Annual Lilly Awards, honoring women in the American theatre, took place on Sunday, May 19th, 2019, at the Minetta Lane Theatre. The event was hosted by Obie and Drama Desk winner, Mia Barron, and star of Broadway's Come From Away, Jenn Colella.

This weekend, Glenda Jackson was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Lillys, an organization that honors women in the theater. Jackson was honored onstage following a performance of King Lear, by her costar Elizabeth Marvel.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham; Board Chair, Arielle Tepper) announced casting today for The Public's Annual Gala, WOMEN OF THE PUBLIC onMonday, June 3 at the Delacorte Theater. Directed by Leigh Silverman, with music direction by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, the highly-anticipated summer gala under the stars will celebrate those who shaped our past and guide our future. Marylouise Burke (True West) and Andre De Shields (Hdestown) are the recipients of the annual Richard Seff Award presented by the Actors' Equity Foundation to veteran female and male character actors for the best performance in a supporting role in a Broadway or Off-Broadway production.  The announcement was made by Judy Rice, president of the Foundation, which administers the award.

During the interview, Wilson recalled when she was in the show 'Header' at the National Theatre and she had to think fast during a live performance when someone from the audience called out, 'Is there a doctor in the house?'
