On Monday, July 24, 2017, The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation, the organization who for the past 13 years has been dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, announced the 2017 nominees at its annual event, The IT Party.

A Jewish saint battles the Spanish Inquisition over the conquest of Peru in the new musical Occasion for Sin, with script and lyrics by Katherine Brann Fredricks, based on the writings of Teresa of Avila and Garcilaso de la Vega, and music by three-time Grammy-winner, Oriente Lopez. As previously announced, Feinstein's/54 Below will present the 'full-bodied' Mademoiselle Colombe, by Michael Valenti (Oh, Brother), Edwin Dulchin and Albert Harris, starring Samantha Massell (Fiddler on the Roof, La Boheme) as the beautiful and talented young Colombe.

In Episode 503 of Something New, award-winning songwriter Joel B. New sat down Sas Goldberg and Luke Smith, both currently making their Broadway debut in SIGNIFICANT OTHER. For the live song portion of the episode, Joel's friend Jason Pintar premiered 'Crazy Song,' featuring Mike Pettry on guitar. Music and lyrics by Joel B. New.

Joining Massell are KLea Blackhurst (Merman's Apprentice, The Nutty Professor, Bingo) as Madame Alexandra (a role originated by Tammy Grimes), Ben McHugh (Mamma Mia, Sleep No More, Tokio Confidential) and Jason Pintar (Oh, Brother!) as Deschamps. Also joining the ensemble is Shawn Verrier (Charlie and Algernon).

An invite-only presentation of the new musical Mary & Max took place yesterday starring Tony Winner SHULER HENSLEY (Oklahoma, Sweet Charity, The Whale), Tony Nominee SYDNEY LUCAS (Fun Home), Drama Desk Nominee JULIA MURNEY, The Color Purple's KYLE SCATLIFFE, and LAUREN ELDER (Sideshow, Hair).

Wilson's play, originally produced at The Spike, was written three years before the Ramrod leather bar massacre in November 1980, in which a man armed with a machine gun shot eight people, killing two. It is a dark, comic look at the bar's patrons and their attempts to defend it from both physical attacks as well as political attempts to close it.

Just in time for Halloween, Prospect Theater Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Cara Reichel and Managing Director Melissa Huber, presents STAGE FRIGHT, a collection of macabre mini-musicals, the culminating production of Prospect's 2015 Annual Music Theater Lab, from October 25-31 at the West End Theatre at the Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew (263 West 86th Street).

Chapin and Queens councilman Jimmy Van Bramer received awards at the Astoria Performing Arts Center's annual gala.

The Award-winning Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC), will be presenting Merrily We Roll Along, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by George Furth, based on the original play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. The musical will be choreographed by Misha Shields, musical directed by Ming Aldrich-Gan and directed by APAC's Artistic Director Dev Bondarin. The musical begins on Thursday, April 30, 2015 and continues through Saturday, May 23, 2015. APAC's performance venue is located at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 30-44 Crescent St (@ 30th Rd), in Astoria, Queens.
