DROP DEAD PERFECT, Starring Everett Quinton, Begins Tomorrow Off-Broadway

DROP DEAD PERFECT, the madcap comedy starring the legendary Everett Quinton returns to the Theatre at St. Clements (423 West 46 Street - between 8th and 9th Avenues) and begins previews on Wednesday, August 19th, for a limited eight week engagement. The official opening is set for Sunday, August 23rd.

Some more music history was made on the Birdland stage last night and Broadwayworld's Stephen Sorokoff was there. Two entertainers who have never performed together were on the Birdland stage last night.  For those of us who were in the audience for this under the radar/radio event, it turned out to be a not to be forgotten evening that added to the long list of Birdland historic musical moments.  Ann Hampton Callaway taped the first segment of her new radio program "This Is Cabaret" and had as her guest at the inaugural show none other than Steve Tyrell, a legend in the world of male pop/jazz singers.  His unique sensual voice is unmistakable and loved by millions via his recordings, movie soundtracks, and live appearances.  Steve is also a walking Wikipedia of the recording industry because of his career as a recording executive and producer.  He was there for many momentous musical creations as head of A&R for Scepter Records. Tyrell's singing "The Way You Look Tonight" in the Father of the Bride movie starring Steve Martin made him a household name.

Shakespeare & Company presented the first full American production of Red Velvet, written by Lolita Chakrabarti, directed by Daniela Varon, and starring OBIE Award-winning actor John Douglas Thompson last night and Broadwayworld's Stephen Sorokoff was there. This powerful and emotional drama joins the Tina Packer Playhouse repertory and runs through September 13. Check out photos from the production below!

DROP DEAD PERFECT with Everett Quinton Begins Next Month Off-Broadway

Hot on the high heels of last year's acclaimed sold-out production, the madcap comedy DROP DEAD PERFECT, starring the legendary Everett Quinton returns to the Theatre at St. Clements (423 West 46 Street - between 8th and 9th Avenues) for a limited 8-week engagement Off-Broadway with an opening set for Sunday, August 23rd.   Previews begin Wednesday, August 19th. With overwhelming rave reviews, critic picks, and audience accolades, DROP DEAD PERFECT is directed by Joe Brancato and written by Erasmus Fenn. Last night Inside Broadway honored the renowned opera singer Renee Fleming (who starred on Broadway this season in Living on Love) and Broadway & TV star Tony Danza(who starred on Broadway this season in Honeymoon In Vegas) at their annual Beacon Awards. Taking place at The JW Marriott Essex House (160 Central Park South), the Broadway Beacon Awards are presented to individuals in the theatre and Times Square community who have been advocates for increasing the audience for live theatre and for understanding the importance of Arts and Education in the lives of New York City's young people. The first Broadway Beacon Award was given to Carol Channing in 1995.

It was announced today that Judy Blazer will join the cast of the Tony Award winning Best Musical, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, in the role of Miss Shingle.  She will begin performances on Tuesday, June 30.  Carole Shelley, who currently fills the role, will play her final performance on Sunday, June 28.

An invitation-only reading of the new musical Amandine, featuring a book and lyrics by Winter Miller and music and lyrics by Lance Horne, will be presented on May 28, directed by Outer Critics Circle Award nominee Markus Potter.  The evening will feature the talents of Tony Award nominees Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent) and Elizabeth A. Davis (Once), along with Nick Blaemire (Found), Erin Markey (Erin Markey at Joe's Pub with Kenny Mellman), John Kelly (James Joyce's The Dead), and Romain Fruge (Threepenny Opera).

Jamie deRoy came to Jim Caruso's Broadway at Birdland last night and Broadwayworld was there. In the world of show business everyone is always everyones friend. After 25 years of having enormously talented friends perform on her stages and loyal friends fill the seats at her shows, the consistency of participation points to the fact that most are real friends. Jamie's friends stick together. The hugs are real, the laughter is genuine, and the happy feeling everyone has after an episode of Jamie deRoy & friends always seems to linger in the air for many days after the show is over.  Such was the case of her latest entry in the series which always at this time of year features everything "TONY".
