It might be a few weeks later than usual and in a different technological format, but one of the signature series of Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC) a?" Jersey City New Play Festival a?" returns in a new online format on May 13: JCTC New Play Festival Online: Return to Love. 

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has selected its finalists for the 2020 Premiere Play Festival. Now in its 16th year, the Festival is an annual competition for unproduced scripts that offers developmental opportunities to playwrights with strong affiliations to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Through this reading series, original plays and musicals from emerging and established playwrights are developed and produced. The next play of the 2019-20 season is HITCH by James McLindon.

Playhouse on the Square, in partnership with Donna Sue and Wayne Shannon and super sponsor Dr. Thomas Ratliff, is proud to present the World Premiere and winner of the 2018 NewWorks@TheWorks Playwriting competition.  This is the first installation of our 2019-2020 POTS@TheWorks series.

Nylon Fusion Theatre Company in association with The Constellation Project will present the World Premiere of ray gun say0nara, a sci-fi play with songs written by Steven Mark Tenney, directed by Janet Bentley at The New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street New York, NY 10014), December 4-22. This dark comedy, set in a cemetery right before Halloween, tells the story of three people who want what they can't have, but get what they need from each other. Dead and Buried runs September 27-October 14, 2018.

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has selected its four finalists for the 2018 Premiere Play Festival and will increase its cash awards for honored playwrights by one-third, the theatre announced today. Premiere Stages received a record 572 submissions for the festival, an annual competition for unproduced scripts that offers developmental opportunities to playwrights with strong affiliations to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. The 572 submissions marked a 43% jump from 2017, and represented playwrights of all backgrounds and ages. For the first time in the festival's 14-year history, three of the four finalist scripts selected were requested from synopses submitted by playwrights.
