In this episode, Ben and Daniel talk to actor and singer Nathan Lee Graham about Lena Horne's 1981 live album 'Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music.' They also discuss André De Shields, Billy Porter, 'Mame,' Robin de Jesús, 'Showboat,' Angela Lansbury, 'Jesus Christ Superstar,' Judy Garland, Jenifer Lewis, James Brown III, Hal Prince, Susan Stroman, and Eartha Kitt. Nathan talks about social activism through art and how performers like Lena and Eartha have influenced his career. Nathan has starred on Broadway in beloved shows such as 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' and Michael John LaChiusa's 'The Wild Party.' He's appeared in the hit films 'Zoolander,' 'Sweet Home Alabama,' and 'Hitch,' and on TV shows such as 'The Comeback,' 'Absolutely Fabulous,' and 'Katy Keene.'

THE COLONY COMEDY SERIES Comes to The Colony Theatre in Burbank

The Colony Theatre in Burbank has announced The Colony Comedy Series - Hosted by Damon Williams, three evenings of non-stop laughter beginning on Friday, April 17, and continuing on Friday, June 26, and Saturday, August 22. Curtain will be at 8pm for all three shows.

WBTT's Young Artist Program Opens Season With Derric Gobourne Jr.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT) is pleased to present the seventh year of its annual Young Artist Program, through which Troupe members are able to showcase their talents with self-produced, one-person shows. The first Young Artist showcases of the 2019-2020 season, featuring popular WBTT artist Derric Gobourne Jr., take place Sunday, March 15 (this show is sold out) and Monday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m.

WYO Theater Presents DERVISH

Dervish, one of the world's most imaginative interpreters of Irish folk music and recently recognized with a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award, will celebrate St. Patrick's Day at the WYO Friday March 20 at 7:30pm. Having devoted the last three decades to gently reinventing the traditional songs of their homeland, Dervish were widely celebrated in 2019 for their album The Great Irish Songbook which featured such luminaries as Vince Gill, Rhiannon Giddens, Steve Earle and others. 

Lincoln Center Will Present SOUNDTRACK '63, a Live Musical and Multimedia Documentary

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts has announced the presentation of Soundtrack '63, May 1 at Alice Tully Hall. In this live musical documentary created by Soul Science Lab, audiences have a front row seat to a multimedia and musical retrospective of the Black experience in America from pre-transatlantic slavery to the present day. Performed by a 9-piece orchestra, vocal ensemble, and emcee, the production couples archival media of pivotal moments throughout Black history with a soundtrack of spirituals, protest songs, and popular music. As a live performance, it brings intergenerational audiences on a historical journey from the 17th century to present day and illuminates their role in creating substantive social change. Soundtrack '63 educates, inspires its audience, gives context to present day injustices, and asks important questions about our future.

Norah Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall and More to PlayNewport Jazz Festival

Incredible ensembles, global superstars, legendary instrumentalists and genre-bending up-and-comers make up the first wave of artists announced today for the 66th edition of Newport Jazz. Curated by Artistic Director Christian McBride and founder George Wein, the Festival takes place August 7-9 at Fort Adams State Park and the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino.

Each performer embodies a different era of the jazz legend's life, intertwined with stories from her debut as a teenager at New York's Apollo Theater to the peak of her fame. Tab Benoit, Oleta Adams and More Are Coming to City Winery Chicago

City Winery Chicago, 1200 W. Randolph Street, has announced Grammy-nominated musician Tab Benoit, gospel singer and pianist Oleta Adams, The Beach Boys founder Al Jardine and more. Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender have just announced the third Broadway cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child who will start performances at the Lyric Theatre in New York on March 18, 2020 following the final performance from the current cast on March 15, 2020. A new block of tickets has just been put on sale through September 6, 2020.

BWW Review: MICHAEL & MARDIE…AND OTHER DELIGHTS at The Birdland Theater Is A Lot Of Other And Not So Many Delights.

Manhattan musical duo Michael Garin and Mardie Millit have been known to stir up delicious musical mayhem wherever they go. Michael is a Drama Desk Award-winning composer/lyricist (for Song of Singapore) and Emerson College dropout who has made a living entertaining New Yorkers, playing the piano and singing at the Monkey Bar, the Rainbow Room, the VIP room at Limelight, and the Williamstown Theater Festival, to name a few. Mardie has a degree in Classical Voice from The Ohio State University and spent many years playing roles like Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady and Maria in The Sound of Music in regional theatres around the country before embarking on a cabaret career. They met each other at Jim Caruso's Cast Party at Birdland in 2005 and began performing together soon after, most notably on Sunday nights at the legendary Elaine's, from 2008 until its closing in 2011.
