Utah Symphony Will Welcome 18,000 Students to Abravanel Hall for Annual Fifth Grade Docent Concerts

More than 18,000 fifth grade students and 800 teachers from Utah schools will attend free concerts in February as part of the Utah Symphony's annual 'Fifth Grade Docent Concert' program. The concerts, conducted by Associate Conductor Conner Gray Covington, feature the finale from Igor Stravinsky's 'The Firebird Suite' and a virtual getaway to the Islands of Hawaii with 'Symphony of the Hawaiian Birds.'

Pittsburgh Festival Opera Announces 2020 Season

Pittsburgh Festival Opera has released the details of its 2020 schedule. Productions this season include classic opera, one world premiere, one Pennsylvania premiere and the conclusion of Pittsburgh's Ring Cycle with scenes from Siegfried and Twilight of the Gods in concert. The Festival also presents a wider breadth of programming in different venues to include lectures, a poetry reading, two concerts by its Young Artists Program and festival favorite Daphne Alderson. The Festival runs from July 11 until July 26, 2020.

Romantic Russian Symphony To Premiere In Tarrytown With Chappaqua Orchestra

The critically acclaimed Chappaqua Orchestra invites audiences to their next performance, on Sunday, March 8 at Tarrytown Music Hall at 13 Main Street, Tarrytown. at 1:00 PM. The orchestra will open the concert with the joyful symphonic tone poem 'For A Beautiful Land,' by the American composer and Iowa native Linda Robbins Coleman.

Kansas City Ballet Artistic Director Devon Carney today announced the company's 2020-2021 season, which opens with Michael Pink's mesmerizing Dracula, continues with Devon Carney's world premiere choreography for the romantic and comedic Cinderella, and closes with George Balanchine's three-part masterpiece, Jewels. The season also includes the annual and always highly anticipated return of The Nutcracker and the intimately intense dance experience known as New Moves.

Ballet West will shine brightly with George Balanchine's visually stunning abstract ballet, Jewels, at Northrop Feb 22-23. Jewels is a full-length examination of the history, beauty, and diversity of ballet technique with music performed by a live orchestra. The masterpiece encompasses three movements with distinct moods and music: Emeralds, set to Gabriel Fauré's dreamlike score evoking France; Rubies, featuring the high intensity of Igor Stravinsky's jazzy energy as a nod to urban America; and Diamonds, representing the imperial court of Russia with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's awe-inspiring sound.

The Montclair Orchestra Will Present its Mid-Winter Concert

The Montclair Orchestra presents its mid-winter concert on January 31st at 8:00 p.m., an exploration of the baroque style of 'concerto grosso', in which a small group of soloists plays with a larger ensemble. The exploration starts from the traditional baroque-classical music of J. S. Bach, but then jumps forward two centuries to rediscover the form as presented by Stravinsky and Schnittke in the 20th century.

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) is honoured to welcome the new Chief Conductor of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong-born Elim Chan, in a thrilling concert of musical fireworks. The programme will also feature one of the best percussionists around, Martin Grubinger, in Sieidi, Percussion Concerto (Asia Premiere) by Finnish composer Kalevi Aho. Elim Chan directs two performances on 10 & 11 January 2020 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.

Greenwich Village Orchestra Presents Classic Romantics Concert

The Greenwich Village Orchestra (GVO) presents its first concert of 2020, Classic Romantics, led by Music Director Barbara Yahr and Associate Conductor Eric Mahl, on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 3:00pm at All Saints Church. The program explores portrayals of romanticism in music from the early classical period through the 20th century. Associate Conductor Eric Mahl leads the first half of the concert, opening with the overture to Mozart's last opera, The Magic Flute. Then, the orchestra shines in the suite from Igor Stravinsky's neoclassical ballet Pulcinella. Music Director Barbara Yahr takes the podium for Jean Sibelius' majestic Symphony No. 5 to round out the program.

The Joffrey Ballet Presents THE TIMES ARE RACING

For its winter engagement, The Joffrey Ballet presents The Times Are Racing, a mixed repertory program featuring choreography from four of the most influential artists working today, including the Chicago premiere of Justin Peck's 2017 ballet for which the program gets its name, two pieces by Israeli choreographer and former Batsheva Dance Company member Itzik Galili, a Christopher Wheeldon classic, and a new work from Chicago's Stephanie Martinez, 2015 winner of the Joffrey's Winning Works choreographic competition. The Times Are Racing is presented in ten performances only, February 12-23 at the Auditorium Theatre.

New World Symphony And Miami City Ballet Celebrate Stravinsky And Balanchine With Live-Streamed WALLCAST(R)

On Saturday, February 1, at 7:30 p.m. ET, the New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy (NWS), and Miami City Ballet (MCB) come together for a special live-streamed WALLCAST event celebrating Igor Stravinsky and George Balanchine, two icons of the 20th century whose decades-long friendship proved to be one of the most prolific artistic pairings of their time. Led by NWS Co-Founder and Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas (MTT), this performance at the New World Center is projected live on the 7,000-sq.-ft. eastern façade of the building and may be experienced for free in adjacent SoundScape Park. Additionally, a free live-stream is available to viewers around the world via Medici.tv.
