Anita Brown Jazz Orchestra Comes to Birdland This Weekend

This year, Anita Brown Jazz Orchestra is celebrating 20 years since the release of its debut CD, 27 EAST. Recorded at the now defunct Clinton Studios by acclaimed recording engineer James Farber, produced by Anita herself and assisted by Jim McNeely, this Digital-Analog-Digital recording of seven of Brown’s originals deserves a joyous 20-year Commemorative in 2023.

The Washington Chorus Reveals Upcoming Season

With The Rite of Spring – Spectre d’un songe, two of contemporary music’s most vital and innovative pianists – Sylvie Courvoisier and Cory Smythe – interpret and converse with one of the 20th century’s landmark compositions. On this breathtaking new recording, released May 19, 2023 from Pyroclastic Records, Courvoisier and Smythe perform Igor Stravinsky’s striking two-piano rendition of his iconic Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring), followed by a bold new Courvoisier composition that draws inspiration from Stravinsky as a launchpad for investigatory improvisation.

National Philharmonic Reveals 2023-2024 Season

National Philharmonic (NatPhil) announced its 2023-2024 Season, which includes six classical programs conducted by Music Director Piotr Gajewski, one classical concert led by guest conductor Jeri Lynne Johnson, and two choral performances presented in partnership with The Washington Chorus (TWC) and conducted by TWC Artistic Director Eugene Rogers. All season concerts will be held at The Music Center at Strathmore, the Orchestra’s longstanding home in Montgomery County.

On June 8, 10 & 11, 2023, Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen and the San Francisco Symphony are joined by acclaimed director Peter Sellars for a new staged production of Kaija Saariaho's Adriana Mater, an intensely moving work to a libretto of Amin Maalouf, which explores the relationship between a mother and her son as they navigate a world rumbling with the threat of violence.

Tan Dun leads The Orchestra Now in 'An Afternoon at the Aviary'

Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer and conductor Tan Dun returns to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater to lead TŌN in An Afternoon at the Aviary, the Orchestra’s last performance in New York City this season, on Sunday, May 21 at 3 PM. The bird-themed program includes two of Dun’s own works: Passacaglia: Secret of Wind and Birds and Contrabass Concerto: Wolf Totem; as well as Dinicu’s The Lark and Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite.

New Ballet Ensemble & School Presents SPRINGLOADED

New Ballet Ensemble & School will present its 20th annual “Springloaded” production, featuring original and reimagined works. The program will return to the Buckman Performing Arts Center, where it premiered in the spring of 2003.
