Ardent Sons is a rock and roll band from Oakland, California, fronted by Flamin' Groovies drummer Tony T. Sales. Their songs explore classic themes of love and loss, travels between broken homes and shaky relationships, and redemption in life's near-forgotten moments. Sales' musical career started with a lot of listening. By the time his dad and uncle gave him drums for his 10th birthday, he had already internalized their musical legacy, the elder Tony and brother Hunt having made legendary recordings with Iggy Pop, Todd Rundgren and David Bowie, among others. Years later, the jazz, R&B, and rock-and-roll that was drilled into his head would lay the foundation for his own music. After spending years working with several Bay Area groups including Oakland's art-rockers Everyone is Dirty, and late '70s SF punk band Negative Trend, Sales finally picked up a guitar and began writing in earnest. Following a few years of demo recordings, live shows, and line-up changes, Ardent Sons, whose principle members are Sales and Bay Area multi-instrumentalist Dave Flores, is ready to release their debut record, No More Than This. It is a sincere reflection on life unfolding, always looking up, but grounded in the impermanence of the human condition.

Plague Vendor just announced their new album By Night, produced by John Congleton(St Vincent, Sharon Van Etten, Chelsea Wolfe) and recorded at legendary EastWest Studios (Brian Wilson, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop). The follow up to their 2016 debut full-length BLOODSWEAT and their widely-acclaimed debut EP Free to Eat is set for release on June 7 via Epitaph Records. The 10-song set kicks off with the raw, vital track and first single “New Comedown.”

“You're pretty good for a girl,' sighs veteran Rhode Island-based electronic rock artist JENN VIX about one of the many comments that plagues her as a female artist.  “I have been asked questions such as 'Who writes your music for you?' and 'Oh, so you're a singer, right?'” Her plight as a woman in rock is nothing new, especially considering that not only is she a successful electronic-rock recording artist but has also been a songwriter, a producer and a recording engineer. With her new EP 6 however, Vix is wearing all hats at once and showing that, yes, she can do it.. and yes, she is a girl.

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) will present Too Fast to Live, Too Young to Die: Punk Graphics, 1976–1986, an exhibition that explores the punk and post-punk movements through the lens of graphic design. The exhibition, on view from April 9 through August 18, 2019, will feature more than four hundred of punk's most memorable graphics, including flyers, posters, album covers, promotions, zines, and other ephemera.

Today, raucous UK indie outfit Indoor Pets have released a new single “The Mapping of Dandruff” via a Consequence of Sound “Origins” feature. The track serves as the latest emotionally striking preview from their debut album,Be Content, out this Friday, March 8th on Wichita Recordings. Described by the band as 'the emotional core of the album,' it is a vulnerable, lovelorn pop anthem depicting the contrast of loving someone but knowing you don't deserve them. It offers an all-too-brief peek at what will surely be an album to remember.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Best Wishes, the second album by pioneering hardcore band Cro-Mags, vocalist/bassist Harley Flanagan will tour performing a set with “the best” from Best Wishes, plus other songs from all over Cro-Mags' career. The tour kicks off at the legendary Lower East Side venue The Pyramid Club, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, on March 12. See below for current tour dates with more to be announced.

Premium network EPIX today announced that season 2 of the espionage drama Deep State will premiere on April 28 at 9 PM ET/PT. Viewers can catch up on the first season of Deep State before the season 2 premiere via EPIX NOW, the network's new streaming service available for download in the App store for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV and in Google Play for Android phones and tablets.

Red Mass has announced that they are set to release 'Kilrush Drive' via No Coast Records and Label Etiquette on March 22nd. The group has shows planned in support of the release, including a release show in Montreal and another in New York, as part of their New York residency where they will play Gold Sounds in Brooklyn on the last Saturday of each month. Premium network EPIX® has greenlit Slow Burn, a six-episode docuseries based on the hit podcast of the same name.  From Nixon and Watergate to Clinton's impeachment, host Leon Neyfakh excavates the strange subplots and forgotten characters involved in the downfall of a president—flashing back to politically tumultuous times not so far removed from today.  Slow Burn, winner of Best Podcast at the first iHeartRadio Podcast Awards, is produced by Slate. The docuseries will be produced in partnership between Left/Right, a Red Arrow Studios company, and Slate.

EPIX, the premium TV network owned by Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM), today announced the launch of EPIX NOW, the network's new streaming service available through partner app stores, featuring its full library of critically acclaimed original programming and blockbuster movies. The app is available for download today in the App store for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV and in Google Play for Android phones and tablets. It will also be coming soon to Roku®devices and Amazon Fire TV. The service will continue rolling out across additional devices over the course of the year. 

In only one week, Bob Mould returns with an entirely new catalogue of music on his full-length album Sunshine Rock, available February 8 via Merge Records. The record features the recently released tracks 'What Do You Want Me To Do' and title-track 'Sunshine Rock'. Today, Mould shares his latest single 'Lost Faith'; a socially conscious song that sheds light on the mental friction caused from a mixture of facts, fiction, and biased opinions dispersed in the media. 'Lost Faith' premiered yesterday on NPR. The visual for the new music plots a tale of such confusion with Mould as the centerpiece in a high-end music video for what ends up as an ultimately catchy, uplifting pop song.

'Bring it On' meets 'Dreamgirls' in the girl-group musical, 'Betty and the Belrays' by William Electric Black aka Ian Ellis James, which will be presented by Theater for the New City January 31 to February 17. The piece tells the story of three white female singers from Detroit who struggle to change a racially divided society by singing for a black record label. Book and lyrics are by William Electric Black. Music is by Black, Valerie Ghent (arranger/keyboards for Ashford & Simpson) and Gary Schreiner. Choreography is by Jeremy Lardieri. Director is Mr. Black.
