I decided to do our Much Ado with a company of women. It's a playful riposte to the numerous all-male productions of Shakespeare's - and indeed our own - time. And a wonderful opportunity to give women - including skilled, experienced 'older' women - a chance to play this rich range of parts.

As BroadwayWorld reported last week, acclaimed actor and director Brian Murray, who worked extensively on and off Broadway for more than fifty years, passed away from natural causes at the age of 80.

Daniel Schumann, Lee Dean and Cambridge Arts Theatre in association with Birmingham Repertory Theatre today announce John Stahl (Big Ger Cafferty) and Cathy Tyson (Siobhan Clarke) will join Charles Lawson (John Rebus) in Rebus: Long Shadows, a brand new Rebus story written exclusively for the stage by author of the original novels, Ian Rankin and playwright Rona Munro. Since they published their first title, Mrs Klein by Nicholas Wright, alongside its National Theatre production in 1988, Nick Hern Books (NHB) has gone from strength to strength. The company now boasts over 1500 titles on their list, and a staff of thirteen based at their London office in Shepherd's Bush. In honor of their 30th birthday the company threw a party to celebrate. In 2016, following a 13-week final repertory season, the plays were filmed in front of a live audience in London and edited for the screen to include separately shot, hand-held and GoPro footage breaking the formality of the traditional live camera "capture" of stage productions.

Ahead of the opening of their new venue - NST city, Nuffield Southampton Theatres today announces that Harriet Walter and Craig David will join the theatre as patrons, working alongside Samantha Bond, Laura Carmichael, Tom Hiddleston and Celia Imrie. Tonic Theatre today announce the 2nd annual Tonic Awards, celebrating the achievements of game-changing women in theatre and the performing arts. The ceremony, which launched last year returns to the May Fair Theatre, at the May Fair Hotel on Monday 19 March 2018 hosted once again by Dame Jenni Murray. Attendees will include senior figures from across the theatre industry.

The Donmar Warehouse today announces that Josie Rourke is to step down in 2019, after eight years as Artistic Director, and Executive Producer Kate Pakenham will leave in June 2018. The team were the first female partnership to run a London theatre. During Rourke and Pakenham's tenure the Donmar stage has seen ground-breaking productions, including BAFTA-nominated The Vote, with Dame Judi Dench, which reached over half a million homes on the night of the 2015 General Election; the award-winning Coriolanus with Tom Hiddleston (2013); and the culture-shifting all-female Shakespeare Trilogy starring Harriet Walter, from director Phyllida Lloyd (2012-2016) in London and New York, and on screen.
