Adrienne Truscott Returns To Joe's Pub With A Stand-Up Rape About Comedy

a??a??a??a??a??a??a??Joe's Pub, a program of The Public Theater, is thrilled to present Adrienne Truscott's (Still) Asking For It (A Stand-Up Rape About Comedy Starring Her P***y and Little Else), directed and developed by Ellie Heyman, from September 20 a?" October 13. The a?oebrilliantly bolda?? (The Times UK) Truscott returns to Joe's Pub with a new iteration of her provocative and painfully relevant show, which had its U.S. debut there in 2013. Dressed only from the waist up and the ankles down, Truscott (still) stars in this sex-positive, seriously funny, unflinching, and nuanced show about rape culture, but will now be joined by cast members Jenn Kidwell (Underground Railroad Game) and Mari Moriarty (Jet of Blood). (Still) Asking For It features video and sound design by Carmine Covelli.

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, celebrates a landmark 35th anniversary this year. Today, the nominees for the 2019 Bessie Awards, along with the recipients of the 2019 Juried Bessie Award and 2019 Outstanding Breakout Choreographer Award, were announced and celebrated at the Bessies press conference. Dance Lab New York Partners With The Rockefeller Brothers Fund For A New Collaboration

Dance Lab New York (DLNY) has partnered with the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF) to provide a one-of-a-kind creative experience for an emerging choreographer. The residency will take place at The Pocantico Center in upstate New York this July, allowing the choreographer an opportunity to expand upon a prior week-long residency in June at the DLNY Summer Lab Cycle in the heart of Manhattan.

Jerome Robbins Dance Division's 2019 Dance Research Fellowship Now Accepting Applications

Beginning today, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts' Jerome Robbins Dance Division is accepting applications for its fourth class of Dance Research Fellows, generously funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Louise Guthman Estate and the Committee for the Dance Division. In honor of the Dance Division's 75th anniversary year, each of the five curators who have overseen the collection during its history -- Genevieve Oswald, Madeleine Nichols, Michelle Potter, Jan Schmidt and current curator Linda Murray -- selected a particular collection within the Dance Division's holdings for one researcher to explore. A sixth collection was selected by members of the Dance Division's expert staff.

The American Dance Festival (ADF) will award the 2019 Balasaraswati/Joy Anne Dewey Beinecke Endowed Chair for Distinguished Teaching to longtime Paul Taylor Dance Company rehearsal director Bettie de Jong. A ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 27, 2019 in Reynolds Industries Theater at the opening night performance of the Paul Taylor Dance Company.

Ailey's Choreography Unlocked Festival Fosters Community And Creativity With Panels, Performances, And Workshops

As part of the "Ailey Ascending" 60th Anniversary celebration, the Choreography Unlocked Festival of performance, conversation, and master classes will take place at Ailey's home across two weekends - October 12 - 14 & 26- 28. Building on the success of the New Directions Choreography Lab, created by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Artistic Director Robert Battle in 2011, the festival will elevate The Joan Weill Center for Dance's role in the community as a hub for creating and presenting new work and fostering the next generation of choreographers.  

Dance Center's 45th Season Opens With Chicago Debut of Ephrat Asherie Dance

To open the 45th season of its Dance Presenting Series, the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago presents the Chicago debut of Ephrat Asherie Dance (EAD), a company rooted in street and social dance. Performances take place October 11-13 at the Dance Center, 1306 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.

Acclaimed for its adventurous short-takes format, the DANCE NOW Festival presents a diverse array of works by some of today's most exciting dance makers. The 23rd season of this lively fall festival will feature 40 emerging and established choreographers, including DANCE NOW veterans and festival newcomers. The festival emcee is TruDee (aka Deborah Lohse). The 2018 festival will take place Wednesday to Saturday, September 5-8, at 7pm, at Joe's Pub at The Public. A special encore performance will be presented on Thursday, September 27, at 7pm.

When Alvin Ailey and a small group of African-American modern dancers first took the stage in 1958, appearing at New York City's 92nd Street Y, the engagement was for one night only—but it turned out to be the start of a new era in the performing arts. Mr. Ailey became one of the groundbreaking greats in African American history, while the work of his Company grew beyond the limits of the stage to encompass education at all levels, community outreach and cultural diplomacy. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater now embodies six decades of achievement, celebrating the human spirit with performances that unite and inspire all.
