It doesn't take magic to discover why WICKED is still melting the hearts of millions all over the world 15 years after its first performance on Broadway. Based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, with music by Stephen Schwartz, and book by Winnie Holzman, this masterpiece is wicked good. From the dazzling special effects to the bewitching songs, WICKED has rightfully earned its place as the sixth longest-running show in Broadway history. In WICKED it is the witches of Oz who take center stage to tell their story of how all came to be long before young Dorothy ever ventured Over the Rainbow. The National Tour of WICKED flies into the Majestic Theatre of San Antonio promising a magical performance that will leave you spellbound.
There's just something about Kristin Chenoweth. It's almost undefinable, perhaps even undescribable, yet as with any writer's efforts to put into words how remarkable the woman behind the image is, I'll give it my best shot, attempting to encapsulate the wonder that is Kristin Chenoweth in 2,000 words or less (but if I go over, don't judge too harshly - I'm simply stating the facts that prove the folly of my initial hypothesis).
How does a scarecrow learn to talk? How does one become a tin man? What made the lion so cowardly? In an age where prequels are being released left, right and centre in cinemas, it's no wonder that Wicked, which tells the story of what happened before Dorothy landed in Oz, is celebrating its 12th anniversary in London's West End at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.
