Ford Foundation Gifts $50,000 To National Disability Theatre

National Disability Theatre has received a $50,000 grant from the Ford Foundation. These funds will support the National Disability Theatre's mission of employing professional theatre artists who create fully accessible, world-class theatre and storytelling; change social policy and the nation's narrative about disability culture; and provide a guiding model in accessibility for the arts and cultural sector.
Play On Shakespeare Announces Actors And Directors For PLAY ON!

Play On Shakespeare today announces an expansive list of compelling actors and dynamic directors confirmed to participate in the Play on! Festival, presented in association with Classic Stage Company (CSC) and Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF). Play on! features 39 readings of new, work-in-progress translations of Shakespeare's plays into contemporary modern English by some of today's most exciting playwrights-May 29-June 30 at the Lynn F. Angelson Theater at CSC (136 E. 13th Street). In 2015, Oregon Shakespeare Festival launched an ambitious 39-play, three-year commissioning project, Play on!, tasking 36 playwrights-more than half of whom were women and playwrights of color, each paired with a dramaturg-to translate Shakespeare's canon in celebration of the enduring impact of the Bard's work. Supported by a generous grant from the Hitz Foundation and inspired by long-time patron Dave Hitz's passion for Shakespeare, the project was and continues to be led by Lue Morgan Douthit. The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director) today announced the 2019 Drama League Awards Nominees for Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Award. The Lark has announced its BareBones program will return this season with a workshop production of On Every Link a Heart Does Dangle; or Owed by Tim J. Lord, directed by Meredith McDonough. The play, a radical reimagining of the Oedipus myth, will run at The Lark's BareBones Studio from May 10-19, 2019, at 311 West 43rd Street, 5th Floor, in New York City.

Queens Theatre Offers Training For Early-Career Actors With Disabilities

Queens Theatre is excited to announce its new training program specifically for early-career Deaf and disabled actors with its Theatre For All Initiative. The two-week, free program runs Sept. 16 to Sept. 28, and will include workshops on Acting for the Camera, Acting for the Stage, Movement, Voice, Improv, Auditioning, and Commercials. The program will culminate with a showcase performance for an invited industry audience.

On Wednesday night, Ma-Yi Theater Company, in association with The Public Theater, celebrated the opening night performance of NY Times Critics Pick TEENAGE DICK at B Bar and Grill. The world premiere play by Mike Lew will now play through Sunday, July 29, 2018. (It was previously announced to close on Sunday, July 15).
