Inspirational singer-songwriter, Wendy Katagi is joined by Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Tom Zink and Grammy-nominated vocalist Anne Walsh in a spirited 'Joy to the World' concert with InnerVox jazz singers and cellist, Nancy Korb at Gardena Valley Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, 4:00-5:30 p.m.

This December, Chicago Philharmonic and the Marcus Roberts Trio turn up the heat at Harris Theater with a hot take on George Gershwin's Concerto in F. The Marcus Roberts jazz trio (Marcus Roberts, piano; Jason Marsalis, drums; Rodney Jordan, bass) is renowned for its new approach to jazz performance with each of the talented musicians contributing equally to the trio's musical texture, form, and direction.

Attention fans of NY nostalgia and the legendary Algonquin Hotel! On October 24th, award-winning writer Michael Colby will host a staged version of his popular book The Algonquin Kid. Michael's grandparents Ben and Mary Bodine owned the hotel from 1946 to 1987, and Michael virtually grew up there as a real-life counterpart to Eloise of the Plaza.

American industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie and Louise Whitfield were married on April 22, 1887 in a quiet ceremony attended by a small number of family and friends. Immediately afterwards, they boarded a ship for their honeymoon in Great Britain. On that trip, it is believed that Andrew first considered building a new music hall in New York City. The Australian mezzo soprano Miriam Sharrad (Opera Studio) and the pianist Adrian Sims met through their love of musical theatre. Three years on, they are thrilled to present Salon to Stage to audiences in London, Edinburgh, Cyprus and in 2020, Sydney and Adelaide. Salon to Stage originates in the salons of Duparc and Rachmaninov, then journeys through Gershwin on Broadway, to Mozart and Puccini opera. Punctuated by a piano solo, the evening of Sunday, 20th of October, 6pm, at Technopolis 20, should provide something for everyone!

Bang on a Can and the Jewish Museum's 2019-2020 concert season continues on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 7:30pm at the Jewish Museum (1109 Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street). Grammy-nominated jazz singer, new music composer, and long time collaborator with Bang on a Can, Theo Bleckmann takes on the mysterious songbook of British pop icon Kate Bush in a project entitled Hello Earth! a?" The Music of Kate Bush that goes beyond re-creating her music to further realms of sound and interpretation. Joining him on this performance are long-time collaborators percussionist Ben Wittman, bassist Chris Tarry, and keyboardist Henry Hey, along with special guest, multi-instrumentalist Caleb Burhans on viola, guitar, and laptop.

First State Ballet Theatre stages a completely original DRACULA at the baby grand October 18 - 20. Choreography is by Viktor Plotnikov, a longtime collaborator of Artistic Director Pasha Kambalov. Their friendship goes back to 1987, when the two were dancers with Donetsk Ballet Company in Ukraine (A nation in the news presently. You may have hearda??).

Take a break from the typical European concert fare and journey through the diverse, musical sounds of America as Pacific Symphony welcomes guest conductor Mei-Ann Chen along with guest artist Aaron Diehl for “Rhapsody in Blue,” a program featuring the works of three prolific American composers—George Chadwick, Florence Price and George Gershwin. Works to be performed include “Jubilee” from George Chadwick's “Symphonic Sketches,” Florence Price's “Dances in the Canebrakes” and Piano Concerto in One Movement, and George Gershwin's “Rhapsody in Blue” and “An American in Paris.”
