Donizetti's beloved comic opera The Daughter of the Regiment marches onto the Lyric Opera of Chicago stage for the first time in 50 years, November 4-25, 2023. Also known by its French-language title La fille du régiment, this mashup of slapstick and romance stars two of the biggest names in all of opera: Lisette Oropesa in her Lyric debut and returning favorite Lawrence Brownlee.

Casting has been announced for the 2024 Winter Opera Festival.  Audiences can look forward to a thrilling season, which opens on February 17th, featuring Bizet’s Carmen, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Verdi’s Luisa Miller, and Haydn's Deceit Outwitted (L’infedeltà delusa). 

The season, which is AVA's 89th, kicks off with a stunning production of Gaetano Donizetti's masterwork Anna Bolena, followed by Benjamin Britten's hauntingly beautiful The Rape of Lucretia and ending with Gioachino Rossini's beloved comic masterpiece, Il barbiere di Siviglia ('The Barber of Seville'). Also returning this season is the annual Giargiari Bel Canto Competition, New Artists Recital, Winter Recital, and Farewell Recital.

Bay Area audiences are invited to revel in the high drama and opulent melodies of classic opera as artists from the 2023 Merola Opera Program perform extended scenes from works by Donizetti, Handel, Verdi, and others in the Schwabacher Summer Concert.

The Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center launches its much-anticipated Summer-Fall Season with “Lucia di Lammermoor” Saturday, July 1, at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, July 2, at 4 p.m.

Wexford Festival Opera 2023 promises a packed programme for this year's festival.  As part of the festival's commitment to nurturing a new generation of creative artists, WFO invited applications from young directors and set designers, who are Irish or based in Ireland, to develop stage concepts for the two operas.
