Incoming Festival Comes to HOME Manchester

After making its debut Manchester appearance at HOME in 2018, the annual Incoming Festival - a partnership between A Younger Theatre, New Diorama Theatre, and HOME - returns to HOME between 24 - 30 June 2019.

KAFKA'S APE Comes to Alexander Upstairs

Kafka's Ape is a solo performance adaptation of Franz Kafka's 'A Report To An Academy' about a primate's struggle to overcome the confines of captivity. The play engages in an allegorical observation of the South African society through the eyes of other; the ape Red Peter. In 2015 it won a Silver Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival. In 2018 it will tour North America by invitation and return to Africa to perform in Mozambique.

Miranda Haymon's IN THE PENAL COLONY To Play Next Door At NYTW

The Hodgepodge Group and producer Lucy Powis will present Miranda Haymon's In the Penal Colony at NYTW's Fourth Street Theatre (79 East 4th Street between Bowery and 2nd Avenue, New York, NY 10003), July 11-28. Performances will be on Thursday, July 11 at 7:30pm, Friday, July 12 at 7:30pm, Saturday, July 13 at 2pm, Saturday, July 13 at 7:30pm, Sunday, July 14 at 2pm, Sunday, July 14 at 7:30pm, Tuesday, July 16 at 7:30pm, Wednesday, July 17 at 7:30pm, Thursday, July 18 at 7:30pm, Friday, July 19 at 7:30pm, Saturday, July 20 at 2pm, Saturday, July 20 at 7:30pm, Sunday, July 21 at 2pm, Sunday, July 21 at 7:30pm, Tuesday, July 23 at 7:30pm, Wednesday, July 24 at 7:30pm, Thursday, July 25 at 7:30pm, Friday, July 26 at 7:30pm, Saturday, July 27 at 2pm, Saturday, July 27 at 7:30pm, and Sunday, July 28 at 2pm. Tickets ($35 General; $45 Premium) are available for advance purchase at www.nytw.org or by calling 212-460-5475. The performance will run approximately 70 minutes, with no intermission.

ArtsEmerson Announces Its 10th Anniversary Season

ArtsEmerson, Boston's leading presenter of contemporary world theatre, proudly announces its 10th Anniversary Season featuring five new commissioned works and five reprises from six different countries. The 2019/20 season continues ArtsEmerson's commitment to international work and to contemporary artistic forms including circus, mixed media, music theatre and first person narrative all from diverse perspectives. The landmark anniversary season will feature the world premiere of Detroit Red (produced by ArtsEmerson and written by Will Power) which uplifts Malcolm X's under-examined, life-shaping experiences as a young man who called Boston home. It will also feature the U.S. Premiere of Plata Quemada (TEATROCINEMA), the gritty true story of Argentina's most daring bank heist.

BWW Review: IN THE PENAL COLONY at Cal State U Long Beach STUDIO THEATER

in Long Beach (CSULB). Based on the story by Franz Kafka, the opera has words by Rudolph Wurlitzer and, in this production, added text by Juliette Carillo based on interviews with members of  Rising Scholars.  The latter is a CSULB group consisting of former inmates and family members of people who have served time.

Cal Rep And LBO Collaborate To Stage IN THE PENAL COLONY

California Repertory Company (CSULB Theatre Arts Department) is collaborating with the Long Beach Opera to produce the Southern California premiere of In the Penal Colony, a pocket opera by Philip Glass. Jeff Janisheski, the Artistic Director of California Repertory Company, is directing the production. In the Penal Colony combines theatre and opera to tell Franz Kafka's dystopian short story about the struggles of capital punishment, morality, and the darkness of the human spirit.

Playwright Darcie Dennigan Wins Anna Rabinowitz Award For THE HAPPY END

The Poetry Society of America named Darcie Dennigan the recipient of the inaugural Anna Rabinowitz Prize, judged this year by Matthea Harvey. The organization's press release explains that Dennigan has been chosen for her play, The Happy End. An athletic performance piece and an adaptation of Monica de la Torre's collection of poems The Happy End / All Welcome (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2017), The Happy End was originally performed as part of the Providence Fringe Festival in 2018 and is currently being remounted at The Wilbury Theatre Group until April 13.

After their sell out, 5-star reviewed, critical success with Franz Kafka - Apparatus at London's White Bear Theatre throughout January this year, Blue Devil Productions returns to The Rialto Theatre for Brighton Fringe 2019 with a brand-new production, The Geminus by Ross Dinwiddy, a reimagining of Joseph Conrad's, 'The Secret Sharer'. In this story of a different heart of darkness from Conrad, themes of love, trust, isolation and sexuality collide in an unsettling, yet poignant romance.

BWW Review: HOPE at Yongkang Hall, Doosan Art Center, 'The Book and Life Never Read Before'

In the year 1833, at a small house in Prague, Chezia, a young boy was born. Going by the name, Franz Kafka, this boy soon grew up to become one of the most influential writers in literary history. It was at his deathbed, the genius writer asked his friend to destroy all of his unfinished works. However, Max Brod, his friend refused to do so and worked on publishing them. Later, there was a long trial against whether one of Kafka's manuscripts should be owned by Germany or the Israel Public Library. What many do not know is that there was a certain female deeply related to this trial, Eva Hoffe. Based on this event, HOPE the musical shows a different perspective focusing on what the manuscript meant for this woman.

Margaret Atwood To Celebrate Publication Of The Testaments With A Live Global Cinema Event And UK Tour

Fane Productions presents Margaret Atwood live on stage and in cinemas on Tuesday, September 10th in celebration of the global publication of The Testaments, Atwood's highly anticipated sequel to her seminal work, The Handmaid's Tale. The momentous literary event begins Monday, September 9th with a midnight opening at Waterstones Piccadilly with Margaret Atwood. A six date in-person tour across the UK and Ireland will follow in October and November.
