I AM A CAMERA Announced At Brighton Fringe

Multi-award nominated Blue Devil Productions is excited to announce that I am a Camera by John Van Druten and directed by Ross Dinwiddy, is coming to Brighton Fringe for 6 nights in May. In this rare revival of the play upon which Cabaret is based, we see a rich picture of heartbreaking pathos, wicked comedy and the divine decadence of 1931 Berlin - but soon the carefree indulgence must end as the Nazis smash their way to power.

A young Christopher Isherwood is in Berlin looking for inspiration for a book and he certainly finds it when vibrant and vivacious actress and cabaret performer Sally Bowles bursts into his life. Is Sally a sophisticated thrill-seeker or a callous and cruel opportunist or perhaps she's just a vulnerable innocent abroad? Whatever she is, she's certainly a fascinating mass of contradictions.

Chris and Sally's adventure in a city at a unique turning point in history is a profound and deeply resonating story, yet sexy and funny in the face of it all.

Starring award winning actress Kitty Rose Newbury as Sally Bowles, John Black as Christopher Isherwood and Christine Kempell as Frãuline Schneider.

Although the original Berlin Stories (Mr Norris Changes Trains and Goodbye to Berlin) were written over 80 years ago, the themes of liberation, extreme political movements and the dangers of complacency resonate as strongly today as they ever did.

Blue Devil's last production, Franz Kafka - Apparatus was the critical hit of Fringe 2018, below are just some of comments made by critics at the time and during its successful run in London earlier this year.

Saturday 4th May, Friday 10th May, Friday 17th May & Sunday 26th May at 9:40pm
Thursday 16th May and Saturday 18th May at 7:00pm
Rialto Theatre, 11 Dyke Road, Brighton, BN1 3FE
