When the show opened on Broadway in 1991, it made history as the first major musical with an almost exclusively-female creative team. In the current production presented by Center Theatre Group,  whether caused by the lack of women on the creative team or not, the show is certainly missing a lot of its heart and is in need of a lot of polishing.

To celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of Los Angeles, nurture lifelong learning and human connection, and connect audiences with artists that are working at the highest levels of their own experience and craft, Center Theatre Group will host a variety of events tied to the new and revisited production of the hauntingly beautiful musical “The Secret Garden” now playing at Center Theatre Group / Ahmanson Theatre through March 26, 2023.

With just a week to go before tickets go on sale for the 2023 summer season, Pitlochry Festival Theatre has today announced further details on this year's creative line up, as well as the world première of a new Scottish musical in the Theatre's Studio performance space.

What did our critic think of THE SECRET GARDEN at The Star Theatre?

Sadie Reynolds, an 11-year-old Los Angeles resident has been cast as Mary Lennox, the adventurous 10-year-old lead in “The Secret Garden'. Sadie has been added to the previously announced Drama Desk and Drama League nominee Sierra Boggess, with more casting to be announced at a later date.

Drama Desk and Drama League nominee Sierra Boggess will lead the cast of “The Secret Garden,” as Lily, Mary's aunt and Archibald Craven's wife, which will play at Center Theatre Group / Ahmanson Theatre February 19 through March 26, 2023.

Kicking off their 15th Season, Virginia Children’s Theatre (VCT) will produce the classic tale of THE SECRET GARDEN. This musical adaptation is a timeless tale filled with love, hope and adventure that takes the stage at Jefferson Center (541 Luck Ave SW) October 7-8, 2022.

Based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett with book and lyrics by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon, the Tony Award-winning musical THE SECRET GARDEN returns to the West End for a one-night-only concert celebration at The London Palladium on Sunday 28 August. The Secret Garden blossoms again – reimagined for a new generation by the original creators, Tony® Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman and Grammy Award®-winning composer Lucy Simon, which will play at Center Theatre Group / Ahmanson Theatre February 19 through March 26, 2023. 

Broadway at Music Circus is taking us back to England again, not to a shoe factory or the Globe Theatre, but to a gloomy moor in Yorkshire.  Based upon the 1911 Frances Hodgson Burnett novel of the same name, The Secret Garden premiered on Broadway in 1991 and earned three Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical.

Overall, this production of The Secret Garden, directed by Ashley Shade Byerts, is a lovely retelling of the classic tale. As Byerts states in the Note from the Director, this show marks the most ambitious and challenging production the Carlisle Theatre has undertaken. This reviewer certainly looks forward to their future endeavors.
