Juilliard Appoints Evan Yionoulis as Director of Drama

Juilliard today announced that Obie-award winning director Evan Yionoulis, currently professor in the practice of acting and directing at Yale School of Drama and a resident director at Yale Repertory Theatre, will become the school's Richard Rodgers Director of Drama at Juilliardstarting with the 2018-19 academic and performance season. The Juilliard Drama Division, celebrating its 50th anniversary this season, offers a program that encompasses one of this country's most respected conservatory educations for actors as well as highly successful pre-professional mentoring for playwrights.

Yale Rep Presents Suzan-Lori Parks's FATHER COMES HOME FROM THE WARS, Parts 1, 2 & 3

Yale Repertory Theatre (James Bundy, Artistic Director; Victoria Nolan, Managing Director) presents Father Comes Home From the Wars, Parts 1, 2 & 3 by Suzan-Lori Parks, directed by Liz Diamond, March 16-April 7, at the University Theatre (222 York Street). Opening Night is Thursday, March 22. Father Comes Home From the Wars, Parts 1, 2 & 3 is a co-production with San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater, where it will play April 25-May 20.

Theatre for a New Audience Adds Performance of HE BROUGHT HER HEART BACK IN A BOX

Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA; Jeffrey Horowitz, Founding Artistic Director) has added a performance (February 8 at 9pm) to its critically lauded world premiere production of Adrienne Kennedy's He Brought Her Heart Back in a Box, directed by Evan Yionoulis. The run will conclude, as a scheduled, on February 11.

Margo Jefferson Moderates TFANA Panel Discussion on Adrienne Kennedy, Today

Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA; Jeffrey Horowitz, Founding Artistic Director) announces a free post-performance discussion moderated by Pulitzer Prize-winning theatre critic and Negroland: A Memoir author Margo Jefferson in connection with TFANA's world premiere production of Adrienne Kennedy's He Brought Her Heart Back in a Box. The talk, which begins at 8.30 PM is open to all and features director Charlotte Braithwaite and playwrights Lydia Diamond and Jackie Sibblies Drury, follows the January 20 performance of Kennedy's first new play in a decade, which begins at 7:30 that evening, at Polonsky Shakespeare Center (262 Ashland Place, Brooklyn, NY 11217). The discussion will also be streamed live on Theatre for a New Audience's Facebook page. He Brought Her Heart Back in a Box runs January 18-February 11. Submissions Now Accepted for Red Bull's Eighth Annual Short New Play Fest

Red Bull Theater (Jesse Berger, Founding Artistic Director Jim Bredeson, Managing Director) today announced that their eighth annual festival of 10-minute plays of heightened language and classic themes will feature two brand new commissions from Tina Howe and Doug Wright, alongside 6 brand new plays chosen from hundreds of submissions from playwrights across the country. Selected plays will receive a staged reading performance in the festival on Monday July 16th (7:30 PM), directed by Pamela Berlin and Evan Yionoulis, performed by a company of some of New York's finest actors.

Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA; Jeffrey Horowitz, Founding Artistic Director) announces the cast and creative team for He Brought Her Heart Back in a Box, the first new work in a decade from Adrienne Kennedy, whom The New York Times called one of the finest living American playwrights. Set in Georgia and New York City in 1941, He Brought Her Heart Back in a Box is a heartbreaking, nail-biting memory tale of segregation, theatrical yearning, and doomed love.

Jack O'Brien, Oskar Eustis and Evan Yionoulis Set for Westport Country Playhouse's Directors' Forum

Westport Country Playhouse will host a Directors' Forum featuring directors Jack O'Brien, three-time Tony Award winner and former artistic director of The Old Globe; Oskar Eustis, artistic director of The Public Theater and Shakespeare in the Park; and Evan Yionoulis, Obie Award winner and professor at Yale School of Drama, on Sunday, November 12, at 5:45 p.m., following the 3 p.m. performance of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet.'

Adrienne Kennedy to Premiere First New Play in Nine Years

According to The New York Times, legendary playwright Adrienne Kennedy has written a new play that will premiere in January of 2018. This is the playwright's first new work in nine years. The play, titled HE BROUGHT HER HEART BACK IN A BOX, will be produced by Theatre for a New Audience.

Red Bull Theater Announces Line-Up for Short New Play Festival

Red Bull Theater (Jesse Berger, Artistic Director/Jim Bredeson, Managing Director) today announced that their seventh annual festival of 10-minute plays of heightened language and classic themes will feature two brand new commissions from Dael Orlandersmith and Arthur Kopit, alongside 6 brand new plays chosen from hundreds of submissions from playwrights across the country. The 2017 Short New Play Festival will be presented on Monday July 24th (7:30pm) at Lucille Lortel Theatre, directed by Craig Baldwin and Evan Yionoulis. Casts will include Tina Benko, Bill Buell, Robert Clohessy, Emily Donahoe, Clifton Duncan, Teresa Avia Lim, Joan MacIntosh, Nadine Malouf, Howard W. Overshown, Alfredo Narciso, and Linda Powell.

The Mighty Quinn Foundation hosted Shakespeare and Champagne, a fundraising benefit for the Shakespeare Academy at Stratford, on May 15 at Ars Nova in New York City. Jenn Harris (Gayby, New York is Dead) hosted the event. Bryan Terrell Clark, who currently plays George Washington in the Tony Award winning musical Hamilton was among the evening's special guests.
