Further evidence that Yiddish is suddenly hip in 2017 was on flashy display last night at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, as the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene welcomed a diverse and eclectic crowd to celebrate mothers and the mother tongue in grand style. Prominent producer Daryl Roth and nine other women trailblazers in the arts, sciences, business and philanthropy were honored, and a dazzling all-female cast performed one showstopper after another. The evening's mother hen was the fabulous four-time Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh, who delighted the audience with her funny and peppery mix of wisdom and heartfelt cheerleading for the Jewish mothers attending and for the Jewish mother in all of us.
Broadway Records President Van Dean, Executive Producer Gina Holland and No Bully Executive Producer Michelle Shapiro today launched the charitable recording, I HAVE A VOICE (music by Frank Wildhorn, lyrics by Robin Lerner) with 100 percent of the profits to benefit No Bully.

The cast celebrated the milestone with a post-performance party at Tony's di Napoli Restaurant, featuring the unveiling of a portrait featuring stars John Owen-Jones (Valjean) and Hayden Tee (Javert) by artist Dan May for the restaurant's Broadway Wall of Fame. On March 14th, 2016, CABARET FOR A CAUSE was held at The Laurie Beechman Theatre. Young performers from the Broadway community gathered to raise money for Story Shifters, a theatre residency for students with physical, medical and neurological impairments. Created in 2010, Cabaret for a Cause brings together young professionals from the Broadway Community for an evening of performances to benefit children around the world. On March 14th, they will hold two shows at 5pm and 8pm.

Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed new production of Boublil & Schonberg's Les Miserables just welcomed several new cast members for its second year on Broadway last night, March 3 at The Imperial Theatre (249 West 45th Street). Joining the cast are Tony and Oliver Award nominee Gavin Lee (Mary Poppins) as Thenardier, Erika Henningsen as Fantine, Rachel Izen as Madame Thenardier, Brennyn Lark as Eponine, Chris McCarrell as Marius and Wallace Smith as Enjolras. Tony Award nominee Ramin Karimloo will perform as Jean Valjean through the end of the summer; Will Swenson, as Javert, and Samantha Hill, as Cosette, will continue in their roles as well.
