The hit musical that critics have described as "Jersey Boys meets West Side Story," and "An entertaining, heartwarming, high-powered crowd-pleaser," (amNewYork), A Bronx Tale is headed to Kansas City as part of the 2019 AdventHealth Broadway Series. Featuring a book by Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri, music by Oscar, Grammy, and Tony Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Grammy Award winner and Oscar and Tony Award nominee Glenn Slater, and direction by two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro and four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, with choreography by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo, A Bronx Tale will play under the stars at Starlight Theatre July 30-August 4.

Overture Center for the Arts is proud to present the Madison premiere of ANASTASIA in Overture Hall from Tuesday, July 30-Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019. I had the pleasure of seeing A Bronx Tale with my friend Cassy, who had NEVER seen a musical before! (I know, right?!) I invited Cassy because the 1993 movie, off which the musical is based, is her favorite. Seriously, her cat is named Calogero, after the lead character in both the movie and the play. I was excited to see this show, and especially excited to see it through the eyes of a neophyte theater goer. I was not disappointed!

It was all about brilliant melody, harmony, rhythms, and profound lyrics last night as the songwriters Marcy Heisler and Zina Goodrich celebrated over a quarter-century of romantic comedy writing with a one-night all original show. As in all of their highly entertaining musical adventures, Marcy & Zina brought along some of their super talented and famous friends. Lots of great new songs in this show, but of course some of their classics were included, although I had to settle for a regular coffee and not one from the Latte Boy.
