New York Premiere of Ballet Preljocaj's SNOW WHITE Set for Lincoln Center, April 23-27, 2014

The Joyce Theater Foundation will present the New York premiere of Ballet Preljocaj's widely praised production of Snow White, with choreography by Angelin Preljocaj at the David H. Koch Theater. This international eventwill only be in New York City for six performances, from April 23 - 27, 2014. Preljocaj's Snow White marks the third Joyce Theater presentation in as many years at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater, following the acclaimed 2012 engagement of Sylvie Guillem in 6000 miles away and last year's spectacular appearance by The Netherlands Dans Theater. The LA Opera Presents a New MAGIC FLUTE, Opening Tonight

Ethereal swaths of smoke combine to form familiar yet odd images: flowers that grow in slow motion as if by magic, elephants floating in cocktail glasses, flying flutes, dancing bells, an enigmatic black cat-anything is possible in LA Opera's new staging of Mozart's The Magic Flute. Created by the British theater group 1927 in collaboration with Barrie Kosky, artistic director of the Komische Oper in Berlin, the staging had its production premiere in that city last year, playing to sold-out houses and rave reviews. London's The Guardian described 1927's distinctive aesthetic: 'A perfect mixture of all the things worth loving: silent films, the cabaret of the Weimar Republic, David Lynch and the Brothers Grimm.' LINES Ballet/BFA in Dance Program Hosts 2013 Fall Show Tonight

Dominican's LINES Ballet/BFA in Dance program, the only joint BFA dance program in the nation led by a master choreographer (Alonzo King) and one of only two in the United States affiliated with a major ballet company, will hold its annual fall performances November 15-16 in Angelico Hall on campus. That's just before ABC will crown its winner of 'DWTS.'

LA Opera Adds Extra Performance of THE MAGIC FLUTE, 12/13

In response to strong ticket demand, General Director Plácido Domingo has announced today that LA Opera has scheduled an additional performance of Mozart's The Magic Flute, conducted by Music Director James Conlon, on December 13 at 8:30pm to accommodate audiences who would otherwise be left out.

Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton Present A SHOW OF HANDS, Now thru 10/26

Award-winning choreographer/directors Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton will present the premiere of A Show of Hands--their new, site-specific performance event that explores touch, gesture and the infinite expressive powers and possibilities of the human hand-- in six performances October 17 through 26 in the Pottruck Family Atrium of the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. The work features an original score by Bay Area composer Dan Becker-performed by new contemporary ensemble, the Friction Quartet-a backdrop of hand drawings by Charles Moulton and six dancers. The free performances by Garrett + Moulton Productions will be given Today, October 17, at Noon; Friday, October 18, at 3:30 PM; Saturday, October 19, at 1 PM; Today, October 24, at 1 PM; Friday, October 25, at 3:30 PM; and Saturday, October 26, at 1 PM, and the San Francisco Jewish Community Center is located at 3200 California Street. Today, on the 200th birthday of Giuseppe Verdi, Plácido Domingoannounces the full casting and production details for LA Opera's upcoming production of Falstaff, Verdi's final opera based on Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor. 'All year long, opera houses around the world have been celebrating the bicentenary of Giuseppe Verdi, the greatest of all Italian composers,' said Mr. Domingo, LA Opera's General Director. 'In just a few weeks, we will unveil a new staging of Verdi's comic masterpiece, the crowning glory of his extraordinary career.'

Los Angeles Master Chorale to Perform CARMINA BURANA at Disney Hall, 11/2-3

The Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC), conducted by Music Director Grant Gershon, continues its year-long 50th anniversary season celebration with back-to-back performances of Orff's Carmina Burana, one of the most popular choral works of the 20th century, featuring Chorale member Timothy Gonzales, tenor, and noted guest artists Stacey Tappan, a "mellifluous" soprano (Wall St. Journal), Jose Adan Perez, a "glorious baritone" (Bach Track), and the ever-polished Los Angeles Children's Chorus on Saturday, November 2, 2013, 2 pm, and Sunday, November 3, 2013, 7 pm, at Disney Hall. Verdi's lush Te Deum, for double chorus and orchestra with roots in polyphony and Gregorian chant, opens the program.
