Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC) - led by Artistic Director Anne Tomlinson and acclaimed for its pure, agile, bel canto sound that has made it one of the most in-demand children's choirs in the county - announces its 2013-14 season, entitled "Legacies Unleashed," which spotlights the music of Benjamin Britten and the English choral tradition. The chorus also presents two world premieres and a broad range of other musical genres demanding remarkable vocal versatility and technical skill from LACC's accomplished young choristers, who range in age from 6 to 18.

LA Opera's CARMEN to be Broadcast Live, 9/21

Eli and Edythe Broad General DirectorPlácido Domingo announced that LA Opera's season-opening production ofCarmen on September 21, 2013, will be broadcast live on a special presentation of 'LA Opera on Air' on Classical KUSC 91.5fm. The performance, which Mr. Domingo will conduct, will feature Irish mezzo-soprano Patricia Bardon as Carmen, tenor Brandon Jovanovich as Don José, Italian bass-baritone Ildebrando D'Arcangelo as Escamillo and South African soprano Pretty Yende in her Company debut as Micaëla. The production, originally created by Spanish director Emilio Sagi and previously seen in Los Angeles in 2004 and 2008, will be directed by Trevore Ross.

Smuin Ballet to Open 20th Anniversary Season with XXTREMES, 10/4-12

Smuin Ballet will kick off its 20th Anniversary Season in San Francisco this October with its XXtremesFall Program, featuring a lineup of stunning works that showcase the range and versatility of the lauded Smuin dancers. In XXtremes, Northern California audiences get their first look at Ji?i Kylian's acclaimed Return to a Strange Land, set to four heart-rending pieces for solo piano by Czech composer Leoš Jana?ek. Smuin also brings back by popular demand the enchanting ballet Dear Miss Cline, a buoyant and colorful romp set to the music of Patsy Cline by Choreographer in Residence Amy Seiwert, and Carmina Burana, one of Michael Smuin's most lauded works, set to Carl Orff's 1937 dramatic cantata of the same title. Last weekend in Los Angeles on Saturday July 27, Chita Rivera received the DIZZY FEET FOUNDATION INSPIRATION AWARD at a gala to celebrate dance, held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. DIZZY FEET was founded by Nigel Lythgoe, Adam Shankman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Katie Holmes. Arthur Mitchell, founder of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, was also honored. Other guests included Jenna Elfman, Paula Abdul, Jane Lynch, Anna Kendrick, Darren Criss, Jenna Ushkowitz, Cat Deeley and Wayne Brady.

Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton Present A SHOW OF HANDS, 10/17-26

Award-winning choreographer/directors Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton will present the premiere of A Show of Hands--their new, site-specific performance event that explores touch, gesture and the infinite expressive powers and possibilities of the human hand-- in six performances October 17 through 26 in the Pottruck Family Atrium of the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. The work features an original score by Bay Area composer Dan Becker-performed by new contemporary ensemble, the Friction Quartet-a backdrop of hand drawings by Charles Moulton and six dancers. The free performances by Garrett + Moulton Productions will be given Thursday, October 17, at Noon; Friday, October 18, at 3:30 PM; Saturday, October 19, at 1 PM; Thursday, October 24, at 1 PM; Friday, October 25, at 3:30 PM; and Saturday, October 26, at 1 PM, and the San Francisco Jewish Community Center is located at 3200 California Street. The event is a one of a kind opportunity to spread a blanket, bring a picnic basket, and enjoy ballet in a whole new way.

Performance Applications Open for 2013 LA County Holiday Celebration; Deadline 8/7

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission seeks County-based youth and adult community and professional choirs, music ensembles, folk and traditional artists and dance companies to perform in the 54th Annual Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration on December 24, 2013. Interested artists are required to submit an electronic application, which is accessible via the Arts Commission website at holidaycelebration.org. Both the application and guidelines for applying are available online. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, August 7, 2013.

Broad Stage and L.A. Opera to Present DULCE ROSA World Premiere, 5/17-6/9

The Broad Stage and L.A. Opera have joined forces to co-produce the world premiere of Dulce Rosa, a fully-staged, two-act opera by composer Lee Holdridge and librettist Richard Sparks, based on the Isabel Allende short story, Una Venganza ("An Act of Vengeance").

The Westside Center For Independent Living Associates Raise $30,000 At Sold Out Fundraising Event

The Westside Center for Independent Living (WCIL) Associates raised $30,000 at a Sold Out fundraising event held on Friday, April 19th both at the Beverly Hills Tennis Club and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion where guests enjoyed a performance of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater said Jenn Steip, Development Director for WCIL. The performance was part of the series Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at the Music Center celebrating the 55th Anniversary of the critically acclaimed dance company.
