LA Master Chorale Releases First All-Digital Album of Signature A Cappella Works

The Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC), following on the heels of its wildly successful and critically applauded 50th Anniversary Season opening night concert, has released its first all-digital album featuring 17 of its signature a cappella works conducted by Music Director Grant Gershon and recorded live at that historic concert on September 22, 2013, at Walt Disney Concert Hall. The album, entitled '50th Season Celebration Concert,' celebrates the most beloved, groundbreaking and inspiring a cappella works that have defined the Los Angeles Master Chorale and its music directors over the past 50 years. Priced at $9.99, it is available online-only, at LAMC.org, iTunes and Amazon.com. Featuring 115 singers, it is the Chorale's ninth album and its sixth conducted by Gershon.

LA Opera to Present World Premiere of JONAH AND THE WHALE, 3/21-22

Professional singers and musicians from LA Opera will collaborate with more than 400 members of the Los Angeles community to present the world premiere of Jonah and the Whale, a new opera for audiences of all ages by composer Jack Perla and librettist Velina Hasu Houston. Conducted by LA Opera Music Director James Conlon and directed by Eli Villanueva, the performances will take place at 7:00pm on both March 21 and 22 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, located at 555 West Temple Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Cincinnati Symphony to Present Verdi's REQUIEM, 2/28-3/1

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra welcomes back revered conductor, and former CSO Creative Director, Rafael Fru?hbeck de Burgos for his second engagement of the 2013- 14 season. On February 28 and March 1 at historic Music Hall, Maestro Fru?hbeck de Burgos will conduct one of the most epic works in orchestral and choral repertoire-Verdi's Requiem. The piece pulls together massive forces of orchestra, chorus and soloists for an impassioned and dramatic blockbuster of human emotion. Perhaps best known for the famous 'Dies irae' movement, prevalent in pop culture in movies, advertisements and television, Verdi's masterpiece depicts a journey from terror and darkness to joy and light.

BRITTEN 100/LA Celebration Comes to a Close with LA Opera's BILLY BUDD, 2/22-3/16

Conductor James Conlon, Music Director of LA Opera, concludes his three-year commemoration of the centenary of composer Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) and brings the Britten 100/LA celebration to a close in Los Angeles with LA Opera's production of Billy Budd, which opens on February 22 and continues through March 16, 2014. Music Director James Conlon, whose lifelong fascination with Britten is reflected in his personal three-year performance cycle of the composer's works in America and Europe, is the inspiration for LA Opera's Britten 100/LA: A Celebration, an extensive collaboration featuring performances, conferences and exhibitions presented by a host of organizations throughout the Southland.

Part child and part saint, endowed with physical as well as spiritual beauty, a young sailor unwittingly undermines the chain of command on the high seas in British composer Benjamin Britten's Billy Budd, returning to LA Opera's stage for six performances, February 22 through March 16.

General Director Plácido Domingo announced LA Opera's 2014/15 season, created in collaboration with Music Director James Conlon and President and CEO Christopher Koelsch. The upcoming season will include six mainstage productions, with 41 performances at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Additional performances will take place in other venues through an expansion of the Company's Off Grand initiative. The season will open on September 13, 2014, and will run through June 14, 2015.

LA Master Chorale to Perform Bach's B MINOR BASS at 50th Anniversary Celebration, 1/25-26

The Los Angeles Master Chorale, a cultural icon heralded around the globe for its exceptional artistry, pulls out the stops for an extraordinary 50th Anniversary Season Celebration the last weekend of January featuring two performances of Bach's incomparable B Minor Mass, considered one of the greatest works in the choral repertoire and the first piece the Chorale performed on its inaugural concert in 1965, as well as a spectacular gala extravaganza, "Golden on Grand," which celebrates the Chorale's remarkable legacy over the past five decades. The Bach B Minor Mass concerts, conducted by Music Director Grant Gershon, are Saturday, January 25, 2 pm, and Sunday, January 26, 7 pm, at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. "Golden on Grand" is Saturday, January 25, 6 pm, at the Eva and Marc Stern Grand Hall of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Chorale's home for 37 years until it moved to Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2003.

JPL Chorus JOins Donald Brinegar Singers in Concert at Pasadena City College Tonight

Pasadena's Jet Propulsion Laboratory may be best known for its unparalleled scientific endeavors such as landing the Curiosity Rover on the surface of Mars, but tonight, January 7, another side of the organization will be on display. The JPL Chorus joins the Donald Brinegar Singers for a choral celebration of winter with Epiphany. This free concert takes place at Pasadena City College's Westerbeck Recital Hall at 8pm.

LA Opera Presents LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, 3/15-4/6

(Los Angeles) December 19, 2013 — General Director Plácido Domingo announced updated details for LA Opera's first production of Lucia di Lammermoor since 2003. Conducted by Music Director James Conlon and directed by Elkhana Pulitzer in her LA Opera debut, the new production stars Albina Shagimuratova in the title role as the dagger-wielding Scottish lass and Saimir Pirgu as her secret lover, Edgardo. Lucia di Lammermoor will open on Saturday, March 15, 2014, and run for a total of six performances through April 6 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

SMOKE AND MIRRORS Enters Final Weeks of Performances at The Road

After more than a year of numerous extensions, LA's most beloved theatrical magic show, Smoke and Mirrors, is officially closing on Dec. 31. Ring in 2014 with spellbinding illusions, a life-sized rabbit and a timeless story that is as mesmerizing as it is heartwarming at the Road on Lankershim in the NoHo Arts District now in its final run through Dec. 29 with two New Year's Eve shows on Dec. 31 at 6:30 p.m. and a late night show at 10:00 p.m (Midnight Countdown party includes champagne, hors d'oeuvre and favors).
