The Drama League has announced, today, Tony Award-winners Patina Miller (Pippin) and Bebe Neuwirth (Chicago) will announce the 2017 Drama League Awards Nominees for Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Award on Wednesday morning, April 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Sardi's (234 West 44th Street, 2nd Floor).

Alexandra Burke leads a strong ensemble in director Craig Revel Horwood's re-imagining of the hit West End and Broadway musical, which features a tuneful score by Alan Menken.

Based on the hit 1992 film of the same name, this feel-good musical comedy centers around wannabe diva Deloris Van Cartier who, after witnessing a crime, is put into witness protection in the least likely of places-a convent.  Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Featuring original music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors) and lyrics by Glenn Slater (The Little Mermaid, School of Rock, Love Never Dies), this uplifting musical is filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story about the universal power of friendship.

Ovation Productions proudly announces its new theatrical offering: the Broadway and West End smash musical comedy SISTER ACT, which is based on the hit 1992 film. Produced by Whoopi Goldberg, TROIKA Entertainment, and Sister Act On Tour, LLC, the production will run at The Theatre at Solaire in Paranaque City from June 27 up to July 9, 2017.

Lakewood Theatre Company will begin its 65th season with six productions on its Mainstage and three productions on its Side Door stage beginning July 7, 2017.

The Henegar Center's 17th season will include something for everyone.  A mad, revengeful barber, a young orphan, some rockin' nuns, a trip to Vegas, and a romantic look at Madison County will grace the main stage of The Henegar Center.  Upstairs at the Henegar boasts all female leading ladies.  "It's the time of women and their empowerment," says Hank Rion, Artistic Director.  "Women are speaking out all over the country right now; we should hear their voice on stage, too."

I am a longtime fan of Whoopi Goldberg with the Sister Act movies ranking as some of my all-time favorites. So, as you can imagine, I am thoroughly excited to again see the musical adaptation now playing at Long Island's Noel Ruiz Theatre at CM Performing Arts Center (CMPAC). This lively production, kicking off their 40th season, runs through March 25th at the Oakdale venue.
