Bang on a Can to Celebrate Summer at Lincoln Center Festival, MASS MoCA and More

Bang on a Can celebrates summer 2017, and continues its 30th anniversary landmark season, by showcasing the breadth of its adventurous curatorial vision with concerts June-September at three visual art institutions -The Noguchi Museum and the Jewish Museum in New York City, and the Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA - plus a performance by the Bang on a Can All-Stars at the Lincoln Center Festival.

Ivo van Hove, Diane Paulus and More Line Up for BAM's 2017 Next Wave Festival

Joseph V. Melillo, executive producer of the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), today announced programming for the 2017 Next Wave Festival. The festival runs from September 14 through December 16 and comprises 31 dance, music, opera, theater, physical theater, and performance art engagements in the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, Harvey Theater, and BAM Fisher. Scroll down for the full lineup!

Bang on a Can to Present Two-Day Tribute to Robert Rauschenberg at MoMA

In conjunction with The Museum of Modern Art's exhibition Robert Rauschenberg: Among Friends (May 21-September 17, 2017), Pulitzer prize-winning composer David Lang and the music collective Bang on a Can will present a pair of concerts on Tuesday, May 23 and Wednesday, May 24 at 7pm at the museum's T1 (Titus 1) Theater (11 W 53rd St.), featuring commentary exploring these artistic exchanges and their legacy for contemporary music.

Miller Theatre and Opera Omaha Join Forces to Present PROVING UP

Launching Miller Theatre's new Chamber Opera Commissioning Initiative  Miller Theatre at Columbia University and Nebraska's Opera Omaha announced today their plans for the New York premiere of Proving Up, a new opera from the Brooklyn-based creative team of composer Missy Mazzoli and librettist Royce Vavrek, two of the most important new talents in American music.

Brooklyn Youth Chorus to Premiere SILENT VOICES at BAM

On May 12 & 13, the Grammy Award-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus will premiere their new work Silent Voices at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House. Silent Voices is a fully-staged multimedia, multi-composer work conceived, commissioned, produced, and performed by the chorus, and comes at the culmination of their year-long 25th anniversary season.

Schimmel Center presents NYTB's UPTOWN/DOWNTOWN/DANCE

The Uptown/Downtown/Dance program will include an as-yet-untitled World Premiere from Martin Lawrance and the World Premiere of Painted Within by Zhong-Jing Fang, as well as a restaging of former NYTB resident choreographer Edward Henkel's ReVision, created in 1986, with music by Edvard Grieg, Holberg Suite op. 40 (1884). A 2013 NYTB commission, Short Memory by Pam Tanowitz, is set to live music by Lou Harrison and Henry Cowell and helps set up Ms. Tanowitz's brilliant use of stage space. The evenings include two more pieces by Ms. Tanowtiz: Light Moving, set to music by David Lang, and Double Andante, a 13-minute ballet for ten dancers set to the Andante movement of Beethoven's Sonata in D Major #15, which will be played live on piano two times at different tempos. Tickets are $29 and are available at SchimmelCenter.org.

Skylight Music Theatre Presents SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET

Skylight Music Theatre closes the 2016-17 season with Stephen Sondheim's Tony-Award winning Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The musical thriller runs Friday, May 19 through Sunday, June 11, 2017 in the Cabot Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, Historic Third Ward, Milwaukee.

ETHEL String Quartet Partners with Ringling Museum for CIRCUS - WANDERING CITY

ETHEL, the renowned New York City-based string quartet, has announced Circus - Wandering City, an evening-length multimedia performance that explores the phenomenon of circus through the eyes and insights of people who have created its special thrills and illusions. Circus - Wandering City makes its world premiere in January 2018-the 250th anniversary of the modern circus-at The Ringling, a distinct non-profit entity that celebrates the history and the continuing evolution of this thriving art form.

Composer Robert Sirota Continues 'Bridging the Gap' Series at National Sawdust

Composer Robert Sirota is curating a new season-long series at National Sawdust (80 N 6th St). Titled Bridging the Gap, the series features concerts of chamber, choral, and solo works which Sirota has crafted to explore the student/teacher, mentor/mentee relationships between generations of composers. The concerts, all held on Sundays, include performances of works by both younger composers and the teachers who have influenced their development. Each concert is preceded by a discussion with composer mentors, mentees, and performers, led by a distinguished thought leader.

Carnegie Hall to Present THREE GENERATIONS Curated by Steve Reich

On Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 7:30pm in Zankel Hall, Carnegie Hall will present Three Generations: Michael Gordon, David Lang, and Julia Wolfe, curated by Steve Reich as part of his 80th birthday season celebration as Carnegie Hall's Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair, featuring music by Bang on a Can co-founders Gordon (Yo Shakespeare, 1992), Lang (cheating, lying, stealing, 1993/95), and Wolfe (Lick, 1994; Early That Summer, 1993).

Maya Beiser to Play Two Shows at Big Ears This Month

"Cello goddess" (The New Yorker) Maya Beiser will perform two shows at this year's Big Ears Festival. On Friday, March 24, at 10:30am she opens the day with Morning Trance, a solo show at The Mill & Mine, and on Saturday, March 25 at 6:30pm she takes the stage at the Bijou Theatre for Uncovered, classic rock reimagined with Glenn Kotche, drums and Gyan Riley, bass.
