Nominations for the 2016 Fred and Adele Astaire Awards, which honor outstanding dance and choreography on stage and screen, were announced just yesterday at the Friar's Club by New York Post columnist Michael Riedel. For the first time, the Fred and Adele Astaire Awards have explored recognizing excellence in dance, movement, and choreography off-Broadway. Twenty eligible shows in the non-profit and commercial off-Broadway arenas met the eligibility requirements and were considered.

Following its successful, sold-out festival of ballet in 2013, The Joyce Theater Foundation (Linda Shelton, Executive Director) will once again present a two-week long season of America's most exciting contemporary ballet companies and choreographers. This remarkable Ballet Festival, designed to recognize dancers and choreographers who are creating work outside the traditional large company setting – and, in some cases, forming their own companies – will take place from August 4 – 16 at The Joyce Theater and feature such rising choreographers and companies as Ballet X, The Ashley Bouder Project and Joshua Beamish: MOVE the company, among others. Opening night of Dance Theater of Harlem's 2015 season at City Center began with a curtain speech by Artistic Director Virginia Johnson, who was visibly more excited and confident on this third anniversary of the rebirth of the legendary company than she had been in 2014 when DTH danced at Jazz at Lincoln Center after a nine-year performing hiatus. Richmond Ballet is pleased to announce the line-up for the 2014-15 season, a season that will include a three-production residency at the Carpenter Theatre beginning in late October, as well as a three-part Studio Series that will once again open the season beginning in September. The 2014-15 season will feature the return of one of the most popular pieces from the Ballet's repertory in Carmina Burana, John Butler's impassioned masterwork, set to Carl Orff's musical triumph of the same name. Nicolas Beriozoff's Don Quixote, a thrilling full-length ballet alive with flair and some of the best music ever written for ballet in the memorable score of Ludwig Minkus, is also set to return to the Carpenter Theatre stage this season. The holiday favorite, The Nutcracker, will once again be part of the Ballet's much anticipated Carpenter Theatre residency.
