Museum of Jewish Heritage Will Present the New York Premiere of YIDDISH GLORY: THE LOST SONGS OF WWII

Revealing a once lost cultural history of WWII, the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust will present the New York premiere of a live performance of the Grammy-nominated album 'Yiddish Glory: The Lost Songs of World War II', featuring the preeminent Russian Roma trio Loyko, singer-songwriter Psoy Korolenko, and narration by Yiddish scholar Anna Shternshis. Two performances only will be given at 7 PM on Monday, March 30 and Tuesday, March 31.

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) held its annual Summer Benefit Concert on Monday, July 15, presenting Tony- and Academy Award-winning actor and Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish director Joel Grey with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding work in film, television, and theatre; and honoring longtime supporters Mark and Audrey Mlotek.

The Oshman Family JCC presents Daniel Kahn & The Painted Bird, a klezmer band from Berlin bringing Jewish punk cabaret into the modern day. The original radical Yiddish borderland bandits, the group offers the sound of 'Alienation Klezmer'-a unique mixture of traditional Jewish folk music, radical Yiddish song, political cabaret, and punk rock. Concocted by singer/songwriter, polyglot poet, multi-instrumentalist, and activist Daniel Kahn, these furious, tender, and electrifying melodies are inspired by the struggles of Jewish revolutionaries and Kahn's own desire for a better world. The band's captivating fusion of accordion and punk rock has been described by Rolling Stone Germany as 'the free-spirited attitude of the New York Tzadik circle, cabaret flair, and scraps of Tom Waits.' TEVYE SERVED RAW opened Tuesday, July 17th. Just two nights earlier, the NYT/Folksbiene opened the first American production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF in Yiddish. Two of the stars of that highly successful production were in attendance at the opening of TEVYE SERVED RAW. Jackie Hoffman, who plays Yente in FIDDLER, and Daniel Kahn, who plays Perchik, were the first to jump to their feet at the evening's standing ovation.

Last night the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene premiered Fiddler On The Roof in Yiddish directed by Joel Grey for a VIP Opening Night audience and Gala which honored Jeffrey S. Wisenfeld, Chairman of the Folksbiene.

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) today announced that the highly anticipated American premiere of the Yiddish language Fiddler on the Roof, which began preview PERFORMANCES Off Broadway at the Museum of Jewish Heritage last week, will extend its run for an additional week through September 2 due to demand for tickets. The Press Opening takes place Sunday, July 15 and a VIP gala performance on Monday, July 16. Helmed by Academy Award and Tony Award winner Joel Grey, the acclaimed musical is being presented now for an 9-week limited engagement through September 2.

Mandy Patinkin To Present Mlotek Prize

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) and City Parks Foundation's SummerStage will present Yiddish Under the Stars, a cavalcade of ensembles and individual performers, leaders of the international revival of Yiddish music. The free concert will take place on Wednesday, June 13, at SummerStage in Central Park, 72nd Street near 5th Avenue. Emceeing Yiddish Under the Stars is comedian and two-time Emmy Award nominee Jackie Hoffman (Charlie And the Chocolate Factory, The Addams Family, Hairspray), who is set to appear as Yente the matchmaker in NYTF's Yiddish language Fiddler on the Roof this summer.
