The halftime spectacular Drumline Live brings an upbeat energy to Mayo Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 7:30 pm.

Richard Move/MoveOpolis! returns to New York Live Arts as the opening performance of Live Ideas 2017 with the world premiere of XXYY, a multilayered work conceived and directed by Move, with costumes by acclaimed theater artist Alba Clemente and an original score by Italian electronic music pioneer Martux_m. In celebration of the upcoming release of Concerto for Violin, Rock Band and String Orchestra, the first-ever classical work composed and performed by R.E.M. bassist and songwriter Mike Mills, Rolling Stone is premiering the track “Sonny Side Up,” which they call “a propulsive, upbeat piece full of weeping violin, driving rhythm guitar and an energetic backbeat.”

Mills composed the piece for his longtime friend and new musical collaborator, critically acclaimed violinist Robert McDuffie, with whom Mills has been close since the two grew up up together in Macon, GA. The pair is joined on the recording by the McDuffie Center for Strings Ensemble conducted by Ward Stare, made up of students from the award-winning Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University.

The Board of Directors of The Old Globe today announced the departure of Managing Director Michael G. Murphy, who has accepted an appointment as the President and CEO of Shea's Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, New York.

Visual and performing artists are needed for residencies for the Head StART in ART program for the 2016-2017 school year. Residencies will take place at the Ellicott City Head Start Center or the Old Cedar Lane Head Start Center in Columbia. Artists seeking a residency must have experience working with children; experience with pre-K is preferred. The performing artist residency will conclude with performances by the Head Start children. The visual artist residency will conclude with the completion of an art project for display at their Head Start Center or individual projects for students to take home.
