Carnegie Hall's NYO Jazz Makes Inaugural Tour to Europe This Summer

This summer, Carnegie Hall's new national youth jazz orchestra NYO Jazz—featuring 22 outstanding young American jazz musicians (ages 16-19) selected from across the US—comes together for its first year of extraordinary music making that culminates with the ensemble's historic first-ever international tour. Acclaimed trumpeter Sean Jones leads NYO Jazz in its inaugural year with iconic jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves as special guest artist.

NYO-USA Returns to Asia in Summer 2018

This summer 2018, the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA), featuring 106 outstanding young musicians from across the United States, comes together for its sixth year of extraordinary music-making, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City(Thursday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m.), and in five cities across Asia, including Taipei, Beijing,Shanghai, Seoul, and Daejeon.

New World Symphony Welcomes Carnegie Hall's NYO2 To Miami For First Residency

The New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy (NWS), is excited to welcome Carnegie Hall's NYO2 for their first-ever residency in Miami, July 16-21, 2018. NYO2 is an intensive summer orchestral training program that features some of the finest young instrumentalists from across the U.S. (ages 14-17), including several South Florida musicians this summer. The NWS and Carnegie Hall, two organizations with deep commitments to education and artist training, have partnered for the first year to provide unique opportunities for NYO2. The NYO2 program is an extension of Carnegie Hall's acclaimed NYO-USA (the National Youth Orchestra of the USA), for ages 16-19, and was created with a particular focus on attracting students from communities underserved by, and underrepresented in, the classical orchestral field.

This July, Carnegie Hall will bring together more than 200 of the finest young musicians from across the country to take part in its acclaimed trio of national youth ensembles: the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA), NYO2, and NYO Jazz, a new group that makes its debut this summer, celebrating this uniquely American musical art form. All three ensembles will take part in an intensive training residency at Purchase College, State University of New York before performing at Carnegie Hall and embarking on tours across the country and around the world, serving as America's dynamic musical ambassadors. In total, the musicians of NYO-USA, NYO2, and NYO Jazz represent 36 US states plus Puerto Rico, reflecting both the highest level of musical talent as well as exceptional diversity found across the country. All three programs are free for all participants, ensuring that all aspiring young players who are accepted have the opportunity to take part.

Carnegie Hall today announced the names of 22 outstanding young musicians selected from across the country for the inaugural year of NYO Jazz, a four-week intensive summer program designed to nurture and showcase the talents of exceptional young American jazz instrumentalists (ages 16-19). The members of NYO Jazz 2018—hailing from 16 US states and drawn from every region of the United States—have been recognized by Carnegie Hall as being among the finest players in the country following a comprehensive and highly competitive audition process. The musicians will have the opportunity to play alongside talented peers, learn from world-class jazz masters, and perform with celebrated guest artists on the stages of some of the world's most prestigious concerts halls and music festivals.

Carnegie Hall today announced the names of the 79 young musicians selected from across the country for NYO2, a three-week, intensive summer orchestral training program for outstanding American instrumentalists ages 14-17. The members of NYO2 2018-coming from 24 US states plus Puerto Rico-have been recognized by Carnegie Hall as exceptionally talented musicians who not only embody a very high level of artistry, but who also come from a wide range of backgrounds, representing a future for American orchestral music that includes communities which have often been underserved by and underrepresented in the field. Twenty-two musicians will be returning to NYO2 from previous seasons. In addition, 18 musicians who previously took part in NYO2 have been accepted to the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) in summer 2018.

This summer's orchestra will feature 36 musicians who previously played with NYO-USA, as well as 18 musicians who gained experience through NYO2, a program for younger players ages 14-17, with a particular focus on attracting talented students from communities underserved by, and underrepresented in, the classical orchestral field. NYO-USA and NYO2 are both free for all participants, ensuring that all invited musicians have the opportunity to take part in these prestigious national programs.

Sphinx Celebrates 20th Anniversary Season With Two Performances at Carnegie Hall

The Sphinx Organization, a Detroit-based organization dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts, celebrates its 20th anniversary with two exciting programs at Carnegie Hall. The first is an appearance by the Sphinx Virtuosi, a chamber orchestra comprised of alumni of the internationally renowned Sphinx Competition, on Friday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. Titled Concerti per Venti, the program features string works from the Baroque era through present day. Presented in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, this wide-spanning program includes the New York premiere of Guardian of the Horizon: Concerto Grosso for Violin, Cello, and Strings, by award-winning composer Jimmy L pez. This work was co-commissioned by the Sphinx Organization, with the support of Linda and Stuart Nelson, Carnegie Hall, and New World Symphony in honor of Sphinx's 20th Anniversary Celebration. The concert will also include works by Vivaldi, Beethoven, Nathan Milstein, and Michael Abels.
