 Disney’s The Lion King continues to reign across North America with a record-breaking, sold-out premiere engagement in Greensboro. The award-winning musical broke two records at the venue during the week ending March 6, 2022: highest-grossing week with a gross of $1,958,506 and the highest one-week attendance, with 23,040 guests seeing the show.

By popular demand, Disney's The Lion King will return to Salt Lake City for the first time since its triumphant premiere engagement in March/April of 2017, where the production played a sold-out run at the Eccles Theater.  This exclusive four-week return engagement at the Eccles Theater begins Thursday, September 29, 2022 and plays through Sunday, October 23, 2022. The public on-sale for individual tickets to The Lion King will be announced at a later date.

This weekend, the Lion King celebrated its 24th anniversary on Broadway. As part of its celebration, the anniversary performance was dedicated to the memory of the creator of the role of Mufasa in the original 1997 production, Samuel E. Wright, who received a Tony nomination for his performance. 

The Lion King will celebrate its 24th anniversary on Broadway tomorrow, Saturday, November 13, 2021. The show opened on November 13, 1997 at the newly-renovated New Amsterdam Theatre and has played 9,387 performances as of today and entertained more than 15,870,000 guests on Broadway alone.

The Lion King North American touring company reunited in Cleveland on September 7, for the first time since the shutdown, to begin rehearsals for the tour’s relaunch. In a Broadway first, The Lion King will exclusively partner with TikTok to stream the production’s iconic opening number, “Circle Of Life,” on September 14 in celebration of the hit show’s return to the stage, 18 months after the shutdown of Broadway.

A particular highlight, on 14 October, Wigmore Hall Associate Artist the British soprano Gweneth Ann Rand joins film star Adjoa Andoh for a special concert celebrating the artistry of African-American singers – Marian Anderson, Jessye Norman and Grace Bumbry.

Disney Theatrical Productions, under the direction of Thomas Schumacher, and Playhouse Square have announced casting for The Lion King North American tour, which will return to the road this fall and resume performances in Cleveland. The two-week return engagement at Playhouse Square will begin Friday, October 1, 2021.

Three of Broadway’s most beloved shows, Hamilton, The Lion King and Wicked, will resume performances on Broadway Tuesday, September 14, 2021, it was announced today on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

The Lion King will begin performances at the KeyBank State Theatre on Friday, October 1 for a limited engagement of 2 weeks (16 performances) through Friday, October 15. The opening night is Tuesday, October 5 at 7:30 PM.
