Riverside Center For The Performing Arts Presents THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE OR THE RASCALS OF THE RAPPAHANNOCK

The Riverside Center for the Performing Arts in Fredericksburg, Virginia is proud to present Gilbert & Sullivan's comedic operetta, The Pirates of Penzance or The Rascals of the Rappahannock, starring Claire Leyden as Mabel, Samual Keeler as Frederic, Andrew Wynn as The Major General and DC area favorites Sheri Edelen as Ruth and David Jennings as the Pirate King. Performances begin on Wednesday May 22nd and run until Sunday July 7th.

Kim H. Kowalke, President of the Kurt Weill Foundation, has announced the finalists for the 2019 Lotte Lenya Competition. Thirteen performers will compete for top prizes of $20,000, $15,000, and $10,000.

In celebration of International Women's Day, DCINY guest conductor Nancy Menk leads an orchestra and all-female choir in various choral works for women's voices. DCINY Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Jonathan Griffith conducts John Rutter's Magnificat with the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and Distinguished Concerts Singers International. Noted conductor Jason Tramm will lead the  Axelrod Performing Arts Center's upcoming benefit concert "Any Dream Will Do" headlining the Tony award winning actress Christine Ebersole with featured soloists Gary Mauer, one of Broadway's Phantoms, Jim Schubin, who starred in Newsies at the Axelrod, and soprano Claire Leyden. The concert, which takes place at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center on Saturday Evening, October 13 in Deal, New Jersey will support the Axelrod PAC's Education Programming.

Nearly a decade ago a story ran in NJ's most widely circulated print newspaper which opened with the statement "New Jersey doesn't have a state music director, but it would seem that Jason Tramm is out to create the position… as he leads opera, choral and orchestral concerts from Morris County to Ocean Grove." Prescient in their observations, The Star Ledger's 2009 article provided a snapshot of Tramm at the beginning of his career.  In spirit, the image resonates today, albeit with a decidedly expanded geographic reach.

Semifinalists Announced For The 2018 Lotte Lenya Competition

Kim H. Kowalke, President of the Kurt Weill Foundation, has announced the semifinalists for the 2018 annual Lotte Lenya Competition, its twentieth anniversary year. The Foundation received 235 audition videos, from singer/actors ages 19-32, hailing from thirty-one US states and Puerto Rico, and sixteen countries on five continents. From that pool, fourteen men and fourteen women from the US, Canada, Austria, Germany, Israel, Italy, and Slovenia have been selected to perform at the semifinals at the Manhattan School of Music on 8 and 9 March.
