The Cotillion, a companion piece to JACK &, is a multi-channel audio and video installation in Live Arts lobby, and a post-show on-stage experience exploring ceremonial entrances into society, such as debutante balls and rituals that welcome ancestors back into communities.
The University Musical Society of the University of Michigan presents the world premiere of a new theater piece on the work of controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, Friday-Saturday, March 15-16 at the Power Center for the Performing Arts in Ann Arbor, MI. Composed by Bryce Dessner, with a libretto by Korde Arrington Tuttle that includes poetry by Essex Hemphill and Patti Smith, Mapplethorpe's longtime creative muse, Triptych (Eyes of One on Another) premieres 30 years after Mapplethorpe's untimely death from AIDS at the age of 42.

The Joyce Foundation announced today that Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) has been awarded a $50,000 2019 Joyce Award that supports collaborations between artists of color and arts and cultural organizations throughout the Great Lakes region. Northrop will welcome Misty Copeland, the first African-American woman elevated to ballet's highest title of principal dancer in New York's American Ballet Theatre, for a special event Sun, Mar 31. The program, titled INSPIRED. A Conversation with Misty Copeland, will feature Misty's personal story of overcoming hardships as a young girl, her meteoric rise in the world of ballet and beyond, and her commitment to empowering youth worldwide. The master of ceremonies for the event is Robyne Robinson, and actress and Minnesota native Lea Thompson is a special guest. Proceeds from this event help support Northrop's youth programming, which transforms lives through arts enrichment and education.
