Sing for Hope (www.singforhope.org), a public service organization for artists, has joined forces with Yale University to present an evening of song performed by distinguished Yale alumni. The second annual Songs for Our Future concert will take place in honor of Yale's 'Day of Service' as a benefit for Sing for Hope's Art U! program, which brings dynamic arts and leadership education to underserved New York City youth.

Directed by Gordon Edelstein, the production stars Patch Darragh (Tom Wingfield), two-time Tony® Award winner Judith Ivey (Amanda Wingfield), Keira Keeley (Laura Wingfield), and Michael Mosley (Jim O'Connor). Performances began on Friday, March 5th, 2010 at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre This will be a limited engagement through May 30th, 2010.

STAGES ST. LOUIS was recognized today with 27 Kevin Kline Award nominations, the most it has ever received in one year, for all four of its 2009 productions. STAGES was the top recipient of total nominations for the Awards, which honor professional theatre in the St. Louis area. 2009 provided me with the opportunity to review 126 of the more than 200 shows that were available in the St. Louis region, and it began in terrific fashion with New Line Theatre's NIGHT OF THE LIVING SHOW TUNES. This was a wonderful sampling of contemporary show tunes performed by a cast of talented locals, and featuring artistic director Scott Miller's fine accompaniment on piano. In the acoustically perfect confines of the Sheldon Concert Hall, these unique melodies made a glorious noise. And, as I continued on my quest to expose my young son to the world of musical theatre, I ended the year with the Imaginary Theatre Company's splendid presentation of BAH! HUMBUG!. I was lucky enough to catch quite a few gems in between, and I've decided to compile a list of the ten most intriguing and engaging productions I saw in 2009.
If you're feeling a little blue, or maybe just experiencing some 'non-specific' sadness, a sure cure for that condition can be found by attending Stages St. Louis's sparkling presentation of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. This is an uproariously funny show that pokes gentle fun at the very core of musical theatre conventions. Everything is fair game in Bob Martin and Don McKellar's witty script, which even manages to lampoon opening blackouts and intermissions.
