2010 Tonys to Be Simulcast in Times Square

The 64th Annual Tony Awards will be simulcast live to Times Square on Sunday, June 13th. The Tony Awards, in partnership with iXP Corporation and Times Square Alliance, will simulcast every moment of the Tony Awards LIVE to the Clear Channel Spectacolor HD Screen in Times Square on Sunday, June 13th from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Broadway League Awards Honors Lannan & Best of Touring Broadway with Broadway League Awards

The Broadway League announced the honorees of the Broadway League Awards, honoring excellence and achievement for Touring Broadway, during the League's recent 2010 Spring Road Conference. First presented in 1992, the Broadway League Awards recognize the contributions of those who have displayed exemplary service to the Broadway industry and are considered innovators of their craft.

The Broadway League has released end-of-season statistics for the 2009 - 2010 season, which began May 25, 2009 and ended May 23, 2010. For the 2009 - 2010 season, Broadway shows yielded $1.02 billion in grosses, and total attendances reached 11.89 million.

Tony Honors Announced for Midtown North & South New York City Police Precincts

On May 17, the Administration Committee of the American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards® announced that they will award a Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre to the Midtown North and South New York City Police Precincts. This honor is in recognition of the precincts' many years of outstanding service to Manhattan's Theatre District. The precincts were selected by the Administration Committee for the Tony Honor in April, along with three other honorees: the Alliance for Resident Theatres New York (A.R.T./New York); B.H. Barry and Tom Viola.

Broadway Contributes 9.8 Billion to NYC Economy in 2008-2009

The Broadway League released the 2008-2009 Broadway's Economic Contribution to New York City report, the seventh biennial report in this series. The report measures the full economic impact of spending by Broadway production companies, theatre operators and those visitors drawn to NYC by Broadway. As the official source for statistical information about Broadway theatre productions in the United States, The Broadway League's report demonstrates that Broadway not only offers entertainment, art and culture, but that it is an industry whose financial contributions nourish the economy of its city and state.

'There were no evacuations from Broadway theaters last night. Due to police activity that closed a few streets in Times Square , there were some late curtains but all shows did go on.
