Tony Award Broadcast Honored With Emmy Nominations

The June 2009 broadcast of the 63rd Annual Tony Awards was honored today with four Prime Time Emmy Award nominations in the categories of Outstanding Special Class Programs - Ricky Kirshner, Executive Producer and Glenn Weiss Executive Producer; Outstanding Direction for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special - Glenn Weiss, Director; Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special - Dave Boone, Writer; and Outstanding Art Direction for Variety, Music or Nonfiction Programming - Steve Bass, Production Designer and Seth Easter, Art Director.

Broadway Lights Dim for John Willis, 6/30

The Broadway community mourns the loss of John Willis, the former editor in chief of both Theatre World and its companion series Screen World and longtime producer of the Theatre World Awards. He died last week at age 93 from complications from lung cancer. The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in his memory on Wednesday, June 30, at exactly 8:00pm for one minute.

On May 17, the Administration Committee of the American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards® announced that they will award a Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre to the Midtown North and South New York City Police Precincts. This honor is in recognition of the precincts' many years of outstanding service to Manhattan's Theatre District. The precincts were selected by the Administration Committee for the Tony Honor in April, along with three other honorees: the Alliance for Resident Theatres New York (A.R.T./New York); B.H.
