Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the world premiere production of Roe written by Lisa Loomer and directed by Bill Rauch. Roe is a co-production with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Arena Stage.

The lawyer: a young, brilliant, courageous woman arguing Roe v. Wade before the Supreme Court. The plaintiff: a complex, single woman seeking to end an unwanted pregnancy. Roe illuminates the difficult choices women make and the passion each side has for its cause.

Lisa Loomer's new drama focuses on the two women responsible for the decision in Roe v. Wade.

Following an acclaimed run at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Lisa Loomer's world-premiere drama Roe makes its D.C. debut at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Directed by Bill Rauch, the drama focuses on the two women at the heart of the landmark Roe v. Wade case-plaintiff Norma McCorvey and her attorney Sarah Weddington-and documents their shockingly divergent journeys following the case, that would come to mirror the polarization in American culture. Roe is a co-production with Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Berkeley Repertory Theatre and runs January 12-February 19, 2017 in the Kreeger Theater. Featuring a lively cast of dozens, delightful music, gorgeous costumes, and those deliciously spooky ghosts, the Bay Area's favorite holiday tradition returns with American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.)'s celebrated production of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. Now in its 40th year, this version of A Christmas Carol-adapted by Paul Walsh and Carey Perloff-stays true to the heart of Dickens's timeless story of redemption and brings a playful sensibility to his rich language. A Christmas Carol runs November 25-December 24, 2016 at A.C.T.'s Geary Theater (415 Geary Street, San Francisco). 

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will open William Shakespeare's Richard II, directed by Bill Rauch, on July 9 in the Thomas Theatre. Preview performances are offered July 5, 7 and 8. Due to popular demand, additional performances have been added on July 12, 27, Sept. 14, 27, October 18 and 25.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will open the world premiere of Lisa Loomer's Roe on April 24 in the Angus Bowmer Theatre. Preview performances are April 20, 22 and 23.

California Shakespeare Theater today announced the cast and public performance dates for its upcoming All the Bay's a Stage touring production of Shakespeare's The Tempest at the Oakland Museum of California. Directed by Cal Shakes Associate Artistic Director Rebecca Novick, The Tempest will play at OMCA November 13 through November 22.
