The first ever New Works Virtual Festival will stream video readings of 20 new non-musical scripts (19 plays, 1 teleplay) featuring the work of a diverse group of writers and all-star cast members.

National Alliance for Musical Theatre has announced this year's directors, musical directors and casting for their 32nd Annual FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS, on Thursday, November 19 and Friday, November 20, 2020. Due to the pandemic, the Festival will be reimagined and shared online through Broadway On Demand. Events will kick off on November 17.

AT THIS PERFORMANCE... will return to The Green Room 42 featuring Standbys, Understudies and Alternates from Jagged Little Pill; West Side Story; Ain't Too Proud:The Life and Times of the Temptations; Emojiland and Fiddler on the Roof [Fiddler Afn Dakh] on MONDAY, MARCH 9TH at 7 PM.

Oh my! What a year! We've seen bad-ass gospel singers, lost Jewish plays, mythical towns of excretion and even an octopus wrestler or two. No, those aren't allusions to the crazy theater going on in Washington D.C. but the crazy wonderful theater going on right here in the Seattle area. It was tough coming up with just one winner (or even just a few Honorable Mentions) but I managed to do it a?? for the most part. Plus, some shows that more of you should have seen. (Yes, that's me nagging you all, Dear Readers, to check out more of the smaller or obscure theaters around here.) But what it all comes down to is, we're blessed here in the Northwest with an over-abundance of theatrical riches and I'm so fortunate to be able to share some of my favorites of the year with you with the BWW 2019 Seattle Critic's Choice Awards (Jay's Picks). So, let's get started, shall we?

AT THIS PERFORMANCEa??  returns to The Green Room 42 featuring Standbys and Understudies from LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS; HAMILTON; THE LIGHTNING THIEF: THE PERCY JACKSON MUSICAL and WICKED on MONDAY, DECEMBER 2ND at 7PM.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Have you heard of her? Maybe not (I know I hadn't before last night). But even if you're unfamiliar with her, you're more than likely familiar with one of the many artists she's influenced. Artists such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Little Richard to name just a few. But that's kind of the point of the show, a?oeShout Sister Shout!a??, currently playing at the Seattle Rep. A show that tells the story of the a?oeGodmother of Rock n' Rolla??, and how we need to recognize these artists that have been whitewashed and mansplained from history. But even beyond that, you want to catch this for the insanely powerful performance of Carrie Compere as Tharpe, who will have you rockin' in your seat as she tears the roof off the Rep.

Long before 'women in rock' became a media catchphrase, Rosetta Tharpe proved in spectacular fashion that women rocked.

AT THIS PERFORMANCEa?? celebrates its 16th anniversary and returns to The Green Room 42 featuring Standbys and Understudies from Moulin Rouge; Ain't Too Proud; Broadway Bounty Hunter; Frozen; Kiss Me, Kate; Be More Chill; Alice By Heart; School Of Rock; and Bandstand on Monday, October 7th at 7pm.

The Lexington Theatre Company takes it's place as the latest regional theatre to carry the banner.

The Lexington Theatre Company opened Disney's Newsies, combining “Today's Broadway Stars and Tomorrow's Broadway Hopefuls” at The Lexington Opera House. The educational mission of “The Lex” centers around training the next generation of musical theatre artists, as college students from around the country perform alongside and learn from seasoned pros.

Broadway powerhouse Carrie Compere will appear as Medda Larkin at The Lexington Theatre Company in Disney's Newsies.

Stephen DeAngelis continues his ongoing salute to Broadway and Off-Broadway Standbys, Understudies and Alternates with its next edition of AT THIS PERFORMANCE… to be held on Monday, June 3rd at The Green Room 42, Green Fig, Fourth Floor, Yotel NYC, 570 Tenth Avenue (at 42nd Street), New York, NY 10036 at 7 PM. Hosted by series Producing Artistic Director and Casting Director Stephen DeAngelis, the popular series allows performers to showcase their versatility and share anecdotes about their experiences.

AT THIS PERFORMANCE… returns featuring Standbys and Understudies from BE MORE CHILL; HADESTOWN; DEAR EVAN HANSEN; MEAN GIRLS; CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and HOLIDAY INN on MONDAY, MAY 6TH at 7 PM.

AT THIS PERFORMANCE... returns featuring Standbys and Understudies from BE MORE CHILL; CHOIR BOY; ONCE ON THIS ISLAND; THE OTHER JOSH COHEN; SUPERHERO and SWEENEY TODD on MONDAY, APRIL 8TH at 7 PM.

A private, invitation only industry reading of the new musical Mandela will be held on Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15, 2019. Mandela has music and lyrics by two South African composer/lyricists signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Greg Dean Borowsky and Shaun Borowsky, with a book by Laiona Michelle (Little Girl Blue: The Nina Simone Musical). This reading is directed by Schele Williams (Rent, Motown: The Musical), with music direction by Alvin Hough, Jr. (Once On This Island). Fifth Estate Entertainment (Nathan Gehan/Jamison Scott) serves as general manager for the reading. The reading will be attended by Nandi Mandela, Nelson Mandela's granddaughter, on behalf of the Mandela family who have officially partnered with the show.
