Birdland, the venue that has presented so many music luminaries in it's long history had the Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Melissa Manchester on it's stage last night. Melissa, one of the true giants of the music world made her Birdland debut and celebrated the release of her 21st album, The Fellas. The album pays tribute to the male singers, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Mel Torme, and others who influenced her as a young artist.

Following their wildly successful Positively Present cabaret at Mary's Attic in Andersonville, Brown Paper Box Co. continues their 2017/2018 season with Neil Simon, Marvin Hamlisch, and Carole Bayer Sager's 1979 classic two-hander (and many-voiced), They're Playing Our Song, running through August 20th. In his directorial debut, Jeff Award nominee Daniel Spagnuolo* helms and choreographs the Jeff-recommended romantic comedy during Brown Paper Box Co.'s fourth summer residency at Rivendell Theatre (5779 N Ridge Ave, Chicago, IL 60660). A cyclone of camp with a true gift for one-liners and an even stronger voice, Courtney Act followed the yellow brick road past the crowd to hit the stage in THE GIRL FROM OZ. Despite several homages to THE WIZARD OF OZ, the May 4 show at the Laurie Beechman Theatre was centered on that other, no less magical Oz: Australia. In fact, the RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE alum's entire set list was comprised of songs famously written or sung by Aussies.

Last night he welcomed New Yorkers to his 2016 engagement at the legendary hotel.  You can only compare a Steve Tyrell performance to the happiness an audience must have experienced when seeing such super stars as Perry Como, Dean Martin, Glen Campbell or similar male vocalists. Singers who kept their audiences tunefully engrossed and mentally jubilant during their shows.  The Grammy Award-winner and two-time Emmy nominee has settled in for a five-week run at Cafe Carlyle.
