Bay City Players, 1214 Columbus Avenue, announces shows for its 102nd season in 2019-2020. They are:

  • October 4-6 and 10 - 13 with October 6, 12, and 13 being matinees, Play On by Rick Abbot. Comedy. Directed by Judy Harper. This is the hilarious story of a theatre group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty author who keeps revising the script. Act I is a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act II is the near disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance, in which anything that can go wrong, does. When the author decides to give a speech on the state of the modern theatre during the curtain calls, the audience is treated to a madcap climax and a thoroughly hilarious romp. Even the sound effects reap their share of laughter. Recommended for adults and teens
  • December 6 - 8 and 13 - 15 with matinees on December 7, 8, 14, 15, The Snow Queen by Ron Nichol. Inspired the movie "Frozen". Directed by Jessica McFarland. Skillfully adapted from the famous original story by Hans Christian Andersen, this is the story of Gerda, a little girl who searches for her friend Kai when he is bewitched and imprisoned by the Snow Queen in her ice palace. Gerda's innocence charms all good people and animals she meets on the way. They help her to the royal court, and on to Lapland, where good conquers evil and the children are reunited. Family Show
  • February 7 - 9 and 14 -16, They're Playing Our Song by Marvin Hamlisch, Carole Bayer Sager, Neil Simon. Directed by Ric Roberts with Musical Direction by Kevin Cole. A funny, romantic show about an established composer and his relationship with an aspiring young female lyricist, not unlike Carole Bayer Sager. Professionally, their relationship works beautifully - but ultimately leads to conflict on the home front. Of course, there's a happy ending. Recommended for adults and teens
  • March 20 - 22 and 27 - 29, God Of Carnage by Yasmina Reza. Directed by Connor Klee. A playground altercation between eleven-year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses, and the rum flows, tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters. Very adult. Strong and coarse language
  • May 1 - 3 and 7 - 10 with matinees on May 3, 9, and 10, Newsies Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Jack Feldman, Book by Harvey Fierstein. Directed by Natalie Slawnyk. It's time to carry the banner on your stage with Disney's Newsies! Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies." When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right! Family Show

Separate from the season shows is a summer show, July 23 - 26, Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by Hugh Wheeler.

Directed by Meagan Eager. An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun! Recommended for mature audiences

2019/2020 Season 102 ticket prices are Adult: $20 and Student: $10. Beginning April 15, 2019 we are offering an Early Bird 5-Ticket Flex Pass for $68 until June 30, 2019.
