Small World is an insightful and appealing play, one that will challenge your ideas about art in its different forms. Written by Frederick Stroppel and directed by Joe Brancato, the New York City Premiere is now onstage at 59E59 Theaters. This two-hander is an absorbing, entertaining, and informative show.

The american vicarious will present the world premiere of Thomas Klingenstein's If Only. This limited Off-Broadway engagement will begin performances tonight, Saturday August 19th and continue through September 17th only, at the Cherry Lane Theater (38 Commerce Street, off Seventh Avenue, one block south of Bleecker Street).  The performance runs 80 minutes.

Summer Shorts 2017 is now onstage at 59E59 Theaters. We attended series B and enjoyed each of the short form theatre pieces that featured superb playwriting, expert direction, and outstanding performances.

INDECENT, a play by Pulitzer Prize-winner Paula Vogel, created by Ms. Vogel and Rebecca Taichman, and directed by Ms. Taichman, finished its extended run at Broadway's Cort Theatre yesterday with its highest weekly gross of $739,171. INDECENT began previews April 4 and opened April 18. The production played 128 performances and 15 previews.

A Public Theater spokesperson explained: "As an artist-driven organization, the welfare of our actors is always a top priority. Over the last few weeks the intensity that 'Hamlet' requires of our actors over the four-hour show is starting to take a toll."

59E59 Theaters is currently presenting a real summertime treat for theatergoers, Summer Shorts 2017, Festival of New American Short Plays. We attended Series A, a superb variety of wonderfully performed pieces with moments that will make you laugh and touch your heart.

The show, which has amassed a cult following and a dedicated set of fans, was a popular production, produced world-wide and throughout the country at various times since its 1998 off-Broadway premiere.

Though your ticket says you're seated at The Public's Anspacher Theater, don't be surprised if once director Sam Gold's jaunty mounting of Shakespeare's Hamlet shifts into gear, you find yourself wondering if you may have stumbled into some indie production playing in the back room of a hipster bar on the Brooklyn side of the L train.

The Public Theater presents HAMLET, featuring Golden Globe Award winner Oscar Isaac as the tormented Danish Prince. Directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold, HAMLET runs through Sunday, September 3 in the Anspacher Theater, with an official press opening tonight, July 13.
