It was thirty-five years ago when FORBIDDEN BROADWAY's genius creator/lyricist Gerard Alessandrini first collaborated, so to speak, with Tony-winning composer/lyricist Maury Yeston. That's when he spoofed New York theatre's then obsession with religion-themed played by twisting the lyric of NINE's Be Italian to Be a Catholic.

It's quite rare and a sheer delight when an original bio hits the mark bigtime onstage. There have been many shows over the years about iconic stars like Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Charlie Chaplin, John Barrymore among others. but only Barrymore stands apart as memorable. CAGNEY currently playing the El Portal through October 29 goes a giant step beyond; not only is it a genuinely intelligent biography, but also has great drama, romance and musical entertainment for one and all. Opening off-Broadway in 2016, the show was nominated for several Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards, and witnessing the terrifically dynamic ensemble of six actors headed by Robert Creighton as James Cagney, it's easy to see why. Creighton not only looks like Cagney, but possesses a similar Irish personality and tough yet tender charm that made the original talent such an icon. The other five actors surrounding him Danette Holden, Josh Walden, Jeremy Benton, Ellen Z. Wright and Bruce Sabath are triple threat performers who brilliantly play a myriad of characters each.
It's hard to believe that RENT is celebrating its 20th Anniversary. But, from its debut on Broadway to the present, audiences have loved this great show that tackles important issues but at the same time manages to connect with the audience. BWW recently caught up with Lyndie Moe who is playing Maureen in the touring production. Moe shared with us her passion for the musical and why she relates to her character so well.
The New York City premiere of No Wake, written by William Donnelly and directed by Veronica Brady is now onstage at 59E59 Theaters through Sunday, October 15. This is an affecting drama, one that truly captures the emotions of people who are dealing with an indescribable tragedy.

Ford's Theatre's must-see production is raw and gripping in its emotional intensity. Led by Craig Wallace's powerhouse performance as Willy Loman, Miller's Pulitzer Prize winning play is as relevant now, maybe more so, in its questioning of the American dream as it was when it first opened.
My jaw sat agape as tears of laughter rolled down my face for the full 5 minutes of UncleDave's Fight-House's gut busting fight choreography. Complete with Raul Abrego's gorgeous interactive set - the cloud by itself deserves awards - NEIGHBORS stands as the most fully realized production I have seen on or off-off-Broadway this year.
